Cool Charlie Waters tidbit.....in 1982 NFC Championship

Dec 15, 2015, 11:10 PM

Game, Charlie wore a tiny Tiger Paw on back of his helmet on the white stripe at the bottom. This is "The Catch" game with Dwight Clark making the catch and Jim Stuckey making the fumble recovery when Danny White was sacked to seal game and the Niners went on to win the SB. Im assuming Charlies Paw was for the Tiger NC in Jan. that year. Just watched an NFL special that showed game highlights. Archie Reese also played DT for Niners in game. Dwight Clark is LOVED out here by Niner folks.

Charlie made one of the great catches in Clemson football history, still remembered after all these years.

If I remember correctly Waters had to get permission from Tom Landry to put the sticker on his helmet. Obviously it was granted. I don't think the NFL was as picky about that kind of thing as they are now.

My Uncle told the story of going into Frank Howards office

Dec 16, 2015, 10:09 AM

one day in late '70's and seeing one of those life size cut out cardboards of Waters leaning up against wall. It was Waters with no shirt on and jeans and Cowboy hat on, etc. He said Frank said something along the lines of, "the SOB sent this to me but wont send me none of his #### paycheck....gonna give Landry a call about that and tell him to run his ### like I used to"....

This story makes a heck of a lot more sense when you read the headline "Cool Charlie Waters tidbit" as opposed to "Cook Charlie Whitehurst tidbit"... Reading failure. Lol
