What are your realistic expectations for Clemson Baseball

Jun 3, 2014, 9:39 AM

next year based on this year, what we will likely lose and our incoming recruits?

Out of players with 85+AB's we lose:

Wilkerson, McGibbon, and Kennedy.

Out of players with 30+innings pitch we lose:

Gossett(probably) and Campbell. So likely our best Starting Pitcher and Closer.

We again have some big name recruits committed but we'll likely lose a few to the MLB draft.

If our pitching makes some strides and we play with some consistency I could see us winning 45+, however, until they prove differently I see a 35ish win season again next year.

Consistency will be key next year and I truly believe we have the talent on board to win and win big, lets just hope they put it all together.

What Say you?

Omaha is goal.

Supers is where we expect to be.

Hosting is expected.

National seed should be in play.

This is every year for clemson baseball regardless of who we return or add.

I think I was spoiled during the time I was a student but

Jun 3, 2014, 9:51 AM

my expectations would be:

-Host regional at least 6 out of 10 years
-Make the SR 6 out of 10 years
-Make it to Omaha probably 3 or 4 out of 10 years
-Any time we don't make it to SR and/or Omaha, I would at least like to see us competitive. Blowout losses should never be expected.

Jack has gone to the CWS every 3.5 years on average.

Jun 3, 2014, 11:18 AM

Made the SR 52% of the time.

We have had too many blowouts, this year in particular, but overall Jack has pretty much met your expectations.

Consistently win 45+ games per year. Own instate recruiting

Jun 3, 2014, 9:56 AM

Win the ACC at least once every 3 years. Crush our rival. Make it past the regionals to Omaha at least 1 out of every 4 years.

Oh, I nearly forgot. Isn't this what Bill Wilhelm already did?

Screw Calford.

Bill Wilhelm was at Clemson 36 years. He went to 6 CWS. That's 1 every 6 years. He made the NCAA tournament 17 times. That's less than half. In years 25-29 (1982-1986)Clemson didn't make the NCAA tournament. One of those years, I think 1985, he was 0-6 versus South Carolina. Should he have been fired then?

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For most of those years you didn't make the NCAA Tournament

Jun 3, 2014, 11:19 AM

Unless you won the conference tournament, much like basketball.

Now half the ACC makes the tournament every year.

Jun 3, 2014, 10:24 AM [ in reply to Consistently win 45+ games per year. Own instate recruiting ]

to OWN in state recruiting is a thing of the past! Jack has KILLED THIS!! there are some other factors like $$$, location, low academic requirements @ Socar. the list is long..facilities up-grade is needed but this is a crutch to try to cover poor relationships with H/S coaches in SC.. Jack`s arrogrance and his cocky attitude ruined this years ago!he has to recruit where coaches don`t know him

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wilhelm won 7 ACC tournys. 5 were in Clemson or Greenville

Jun 3, 2014, 10:42 AM [ in reply to Consistently win 45+ games per year. Own instate recruiting ]

Wilhelm was a great coach. But lets not pretend he walked on baseball water. And its almost impossible to compare college baseball in the 80s and 90s to now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, nobody answered your question really.

Jun 3, 2014, 10:03 AM

I expect a worse season unless we land some freshmen who have no business playing college baseball or something major clicks in some of these arms. Seem to have a major pitching shortage and the position players compound this problem by doing things like allowing a guy to reach safely when he was trying to sacrifice.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson will be lucky to win 35 games.

Jun 3, 2014, 10:10 AM

No matter who the coach is. Keeping Leggett just makes the hole deeper.

I don't believe 35 wins is going to happen.

I agree that the inconsistency is costing us wins.

Jun 3, 2014, 11:30 AM [ in reply to Re:what r your expectations for Clemson Baseball- no idea ]

However, I truly believe we have the talent in this program to have a great year.
