Our coaches are the best in the business and have a proven formula that works. They probably identified what I am about to say as a problem months ago, but we need a player such as Amari Rogers to step in and take Hunter Renfrow's place in the offense. How many times over the last 4 years did HR keep a drive going just by getting the 1st down playing pitch and catch with Deshaun, KB, and Trevor.

It was one of those short throws that HR took to the house after the entire coot defense tripped over themselves.

Seems like we are trying to hit the explosive plays when we could just keep a drive alive by getting a first down.

Just an observation. I am sure our O-coordinators are working on this as well as a way to get a TE involved more in the offense.

Don't tell TNET but the big play by Renfrow vs scar was a WR screen.

We hate those because they never work.

But, but, but...Finebaum says...

...inconclusive...

I would love to see the defensive ranks for the opposing teams in each of those season as well.

Also in defense of Deshaun, by game 5 he had answered the questions about struggling offense because the 5th game was a 42-36 win over Louisville.

The snoozers on offense that year were Auburn in the opener (good defense), Troy (good group of 5 D but not good overall), and GA Tech (average to below average defense).

This year we struggled on offense against Texas A&M and struggled on offense against UNC.

GA Tech, Syracuse, and Charlotte were not struggles on offense but were marked by turnovers even though we had high yards and points.

In my opinion, UNC defense is probably a little better than GA Tech in 2016 but A&M from this year is not as good as the '16 Auburn defense.

Great info, thanks for posting that.

On the other hand, one thing about the 2016 vs 2019 parallels that concerns me: 2016 team had one close-call scare (missed FG by NCSt to win the game - Clemson went on to win). Clemson 2016 eventually lost to Pitt before they "learned". 2019 - TBD - but most of us fear we don't have a freebie loss that we can throw in there and advance to the CFP. Just an observation - not a prediction.

this is correct***

This doesn't necessarily mean that we are "fine". All it means is that Deshaun and the offense had similar statistics through 5 games, and got better at the end of the year. Every year is a new team that responds differently to adversity. It could be a similar result to 2016 or it could be completely different, we don't know.

Well, we also played

Auburn, Louisville before they sucked, and Georgia Tech before they sucked.

TL ('19) has a better O Line, and collective talent at receiver and Running Backs.

This is what people seem to forget.

DW4 did incredible things with a lot less than TL has. No comparison really.

When TL figures things out and raises his game, this offense will be amazing. Just a matter of time.

Say what? Mike Williams, Leggett, Gallman, Scott, Cain, and Renfrow were a lot less?

Gallman is a LOT less of a running threat than ETN and DW4's O-line did not protect the passer nearly as well as the current O-line.

DW4 carried the offense on his back for two consecutive years. He finished 2nd and 3rd in the Heisman vote in those two years.

I hope TL plays well enough in 2020 to get invited to Manhattan. I hope at some point he surpasses DW4. Hard to see that happening at this point but I won't rule it out. Long way to go.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But Gallman was an amazing blocker

ETN struggled last week.
