My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

Give me the beer Dan. Just put it down and walk away. I'll take care of it.

Good luck to you, maybe you should try out for the Biggest Loser. Those trainers whip some a$$.

Mickey,
I wish you well on your weight loss pursuit. You will have a lot of listeners and T-Net followers behind you, encouraging you. To help you reach your goals, I would like to ask to run with me in the President's 5k run the first Saturday in April. Don't worry about your time; just run it without walking and you will have accomplished something. I used the race three years ago for a similar goal...I had ACL replacement surgery in mid October and ran the race the following April and posted a near personal best.

Please let me know if you will run the race because, as you knock off the pounds, you will need to start training soon, increasing your distance a little bit at a time.
Bert Henderson usually runs it...maybe we can all run side by side. My time is not important if I can encourange you to train (which help you lose even more weight) and succeed.

Dan. I don?t know if this will serve as some consolations or maybe inspiration in your new quest. But I am already diabetic and have a terrible level of the good cholesterol (HDL). No it?s not related to my weight as I?m far from being overweight. But my message to you is that stepping back a little bit and reassessing your lifestyle the way it is now is definitely doable and not to mention, well worth it. Yes, it requires some honest commitments but look at it as something you are going to gain from?.not as if you will lose or give up anything. That?s where the attitude adjustment needs to come. I am a vegetarian but that doesn?t mean you need to go that far to be proactive and in preventive mode. Just watch yourself when you near some beer, sodas and the sweets?and of course, those carb laden stuff all around the place.

Every time you feel like letting go of yourself and indulge, think of your wife and the beautiful daughters of yours. Do it for them, if not for you.

You CAN do it!

P.S. I always find your articles thought provoking. Keep ?em coming!

Dan, I made a commitment today to lose at least 27 pounds...

Dec 13, 2007, 8:42 PM

so I have an inkling of what you face. My weight has ballooned this year from about 225 to 247, it seems like overnight, and it is no fun. I work out at the "Y" 3 times a week, which is great, but am having trouble on the diet end, which is equally important.

Good luck and thanks for what you do! Keep us informed, as we will all be pulling for you.

Don't forget to add WILL POWER to your diet. This can be a big help when it comes to not eating those things that you want but shouldn't eat. GOOD LUCK!!! You can do it!!!

it will get easier. Stick to it. Once you see the pounds falling off, it's quite an incentive.

I went from the 250s to the 220s beginning Jan last year and it was difficult, I love to eat...........first time I have ever been successful with weight loss....and "coincidentally" the first time I asked for help thru prayer from the Big Guy.....I know how weak I am but we can do all things thru Him.....give it to Him everyday and we WILL be calling you skinny before you know it......you are already on my prayer list; no luck required

Good luck Dan. I'll remember to say a prayer for you. I love to eat good food too and I know how hard it is to cut back. By putting it out in public, you've made yourself accountable to all of us who listen every day and read your articles on Tigernet. Keep us posted on your progress and believe me, we are all rooting for you. Merry Christmas Big Guy!
