Clemson's SOS has been strong in the CFP era

Jan 23, 2020, 3:25 PM

The last 5 years our strength of schedule heading into the conference championship game:

2019- 35th
2018- 18th
2017- 6th
2016- 9th
2015- 20th

So even though Clemson takes all this heat for playing nobody we have a top 20 schedule pretty much every year and even in a down year for the ACC it was in the top 1/3rd in the nation.

If not for the uof6c Capons, it would be even higher***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I agree and I think we need to schedule an SEC school instead of Uof6C***

Frankly...

scheduling Furman, Wofford, elCid, LaTech, UConn, FAU, Wyoming, Troy, App State and the like does more to enhance the schedule than playing uof6c.

They're also generally give Clemson a better game.

That's for sure. They hurt our SOS and we help theirs.***

We have been catching grief all year and probably will again next year, but this good ammo to have next time I hear the weak schedule crap from others. thank you!

You cannot confuse them with facts, it’s been tried already

I wouldn’t call 35th strong this year. I live in Texas and hear it all the time, I just stay quiet in these discussions because I’m a realist and I’ll be the first to admit our schedule was a breeze last year up until OSU.

Not strong but still not terrible. Every other year was top 20.

Listening to the talking heads you’d think our schedule was ranked near the bottom every year.

SOS is boosted heavily from the fact we end most seasons playing 2 top 4 teams and at least 1 since 2015. Take those away and it's different, I don't think it matters frankly if we added an extra ND or Florida in there to boost our SOS as I think we win those and it silences people a good bit more but I wouldn't say strong by any means if I'm being realistic. With that being said it's also funny to me that people expect we're not as good because we don't add in these schools which don't want to add us. Either way we will be just fine.

These numbers are before the conference championship game.

We’ve had a top 5 schedule every year at the end of the season after adding playoff games.
