Honor him for what? Having some of the worst music of the nineties. Heck no we shouldn't honor him, if anything, Clemson Tom, J. Thurn and 104.9 should have a day dedicated to bashing all things gamecock, with Hootie and the Blowfish being the (dis)honored guest.

He had several albums. But his songs sound alike

haha you guys are crazy. Did any of you even see their tweets last night? They aren't trying to honor him. He'll be in the area and wanted to have him on Thurn's show to talk about the rivalry. Ya'll need to lose the small minded mentality. Actually, don't it gives us educated fans something to laugh at.

somebody gurgling razor blades. His songs are about nothing. Never understood his popularity or Hootie and the Fartfish. Of course Hootie and the Fartfish were one album wonders. And Rucker had to turn to country music, because he had became completely irrelevant, kind of like Kid Rock.

Some of these comments make me laugh. The guy is a terrible musician...for no other definitive reason than that he is a Coot (even though I know some of you use the guise of his voice...which is clearly misguided). Right.
How many of you have been front men for a popular rock band? How many have had multiplatinum solo careers? I always find it amazing that there are so many music experts who've never even played a show, much less had a career spanning three decades. Perhaps some of you should break into the industry and show us what REAL music is about. L M A O!!! Send me a screenshot when you make the billboard country or adult 40 charts.
I guess we should say Lee Brice's music sucks too. Considering he comes from the same side of the country/rock coin. And he's had much less success.
Rucker's a Coot! Crucify the Coot! Burn the Coot!
Give me a break. You guys sound jealous and butthurt over a guy just living the dream...discrediting his success for no other reason than that he's a coot.

Obviously, he is very talented.....millions of album sales and being inducted in the G.O.O. is kinda hard to argue with. My only problem with him is that he takes every opportunity to bash the Tigers as he possibly can. It would be one thing if he just gave props to his alma mater but he truly enjoys running Clemson down. I also agree with the previous poster on Clemson Tom being a horrible representative for our school. He is a complete and total embarrassment.....quite obvious he is not an alum.

Agreed. Don't like him basing the Tigers - but as a USC alum, what can you expect?
Just had to respond when I saw people saying he was "a terrible musician" among other things. If anyone thinks that someone who accumulates Grammys and the kind of accolades he has in his career isn't a good musician, then they are obviously in the very, very small minority.
Of course, this minority would tell you that they are the music aficionados and that their taste is clearly superior to that of others. Okay, I'm done with my straw man.
Go TIGERS!!! Screw Darius and the Coots!

TBH as a USC alum I would expect that behavior. I wish some of our more prominent alums would do the same. It is a rivalry after all.

"Ruining wagon wheel" as in "taking it and making it more mainstream and successful."
Got a lot of love for Old Crow, but Rucker did the song justice and didn't try and change it to much.
He essentially put a lot of money in Old Crow's pockets via royalties. They're probably thanking him right now.

People out there producing music to get a message out or for the love of it, and not for the money. Although commercial radio wouldn't know what that sounds like.

And people in the commercial sector started out that way. They are just smart enough to know how to market themselves and turn their talents into revenue.
99.9999% of those edgy, independent musicians are either 1) not talented enough to turn their music into anything of consequence or 2) too stupid to make money with their talent or 3) are so enamored with the "love of it" that they miss the forest for the trees i.e. doing music for the love of it is an excuse for their ineptitude at actually using their talent and letting others be a part of it.
Since the beginning of time, people have used their talents to make money. Make no mistake, those struggling musicians wish they weren't struggling. And that they and their fans chastise "commercial music" just speaks to the pain and the jealousy they feel about their rejection.

Darius was OK when he had his band. But since then, his attempt at being the black Kenny Cheney falls short.
As far as Turn and Clemson Tom, who cares? Turn is at the pinnacle of his broadcasting career because CCP needed a cheap replacement for the Dan Scott time slot. Clemson Tom is basically a fool who Turn allows to use his show to make prank calls like a 10 year old.
