Well atleast we got this week against Temple to fix these

problems. We also should stick with Jad for atleast the first part of the Temple game. He will get through this situation. Bowden just has to stick with him. It is mental at this point. Getting John Early in the game to kick some extra points late in the Temple game is a good idea either way.

We will have to play flawlessly on offense and defense and with high intensity to offset the horrific special teams play to defeat either of the "Techs" or State for that matter. If we improve to mediocre on special teams, (which is the most one can hope for given it's midseason) I like our chances. I really do not look forward to giving opponents the ball on the 35-45 after a score from here on out.

i'm with you...if the starting field position for ga tech is the 45 we will get killed. and we need to fair catch those punts so we aren't at our own 2. va tech will kill us if our special teams continues like it has.

Not sure how the first KO was "poor" it was deep into the EZ

and most return teams would have automatically hit a knee.

Our coverage is so weak that Wake's guys looked like they were planning to try to return anything that didn't go into the bleachers.

Not sure what Jad could have done on the opening KO.

Why is no one talking difference in field position?

Oct 10, 2006, 7:29 PM

It's pretty amazing that we won the game given that we starting so deep in our territory everytime and that Wake usally started at their 35 or closer. The squib kick wasn't doing the job either. Why kick a high ball to the 20 yard line? If Jad can do that, would have seemed like a better.

I think the whole point is field position. If the opponent starts at the 35-40, even a three and out provides opportunity to pin you back deep in your territory. Then, you have very little of your playbook you can use until you get at least one first down. And if you are successful, to sustain a drive, it takes 15-20 plays to score unless you break something. How many times can you run that many plays without a penalty that kills the drive? You are right, it is amazing we won, and it will be more amazing if we win playing the remaining teams in the league even if we don't fumble once and throw 3 interceptions. Kicking inconsistencies, awful coverage and tackling, spell doom for close games.
