Clemson vs. FFRF

Apr 16, 2014, 4:02 PM

I read TigerNet a lot but decided to make an account because this is something I have strong feelings about. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the majority of Clemson's funds (about 90%) come from sources other than taxpayers money? It seems to me that If the FFRF wants to have a say in what we do as a school and how we operate, that they should only get a say in 10% of our school's operation (preferably the liberal arts department). Here's hoping Dabo and the administration stay strong despite what could turn into a huge attack by the Liberal media.

Doesn't really matter. They are a state institution, their employees are state employees, etc.

Why would you want them in the liberal arts department? I say let them control engineering. Have you ever heard of religion based math? Me either.

On a side note, why does Clemson continue to be a public institution when, from what I remember reading, they only get in the single digits of their budget from the state? At what point would Clemson decide it is time to just become private?

a.k.a. Common Core. If you believe it's the right answer, then it is.

HTH this helps.

I used to pray for the answers, but nothing ever came to me.

10% of the budget is still far too large a chunk to just give up. It sounds like a small percentage, but it's millions of dollars that would have to be covered with other sources. That's not easy to do, especially when Clemson is hitting up a small number of alumni and other regular donors to grow the endowment to the point where it is sustainable.

Now, if we could get more than 28% of our alumni to give even a few dollars to the school regularly, we'd be rocking and rolling and might be in a position to thumb our noses toward the Statehouse. I'm not sure why more alumni don't give a few bucks a year given that it yields a massive return on investment in the perception (and thus value) of your Clemson degree.
