Clemson record against ranked usc teams since '77....

Pell, Hatfield, and West never played a ranked usc team.
Danny Ford was 2 - 3 against ranked usc teams. He beat teams ranked 14 and 25 (Avg ranking 19.5). Lost to teams ranked 9, 12, 19 (Avg ranking 13.3).
Tommy Bowden was 2 - 1. Wins against 19 and 25 (Avg ranking 22). Loss against 22.
Dabo Swinney is 0 - 3. Losses to 12, 14, and 18 (Avg ranking 14.7)
Total record 4 - 7
Avg usc ranking in wins - 20.8
Avg usc ranking in losses - 15.1
I don't like losing 1 game to usc much worst 4 in a row. However, our history shows we tend to lose to higher ranked usc teams regardless of coach.

Actually, prior to Dabo, Clemson was even in those contests against a ranked USC.

So it's okay to lose to usc if it's a close game. I thought a win was a win and a loss was a loss. Losing to usc by 1 point bothers me. In fact, I was not pleased when we tied them. It felt like a loss.

What I was saying is that before Dabo, the two previous coaches to play a ranked usc team beat them four times and lost to them four times. It was Dabo that turned it into an overall loss record against a ranked usc team in the time period you mentioned.

Misundestood. Sorry! Only one coach has a winning record against those ranked teams. Danny only won 1 of his first 4 contest against ranked usc teams. So, if Dabo wins next year against usc, then they would have the same record in 4 games against ranked usc teams. That may seem like a big if, but we will see.

Are you counting games only when USC was ranked, no matter if Clemson was ranked or not? How about games in which Clemson was ranked, no matter if USC was ranked or not?
The higher ranked team usually wins. They are ranked higher because they are good.

since 1977 is about the same as our 4-7 vs their 11 ranked teams since 1977. 4-7 roughly equivalent to 8-14, similar to 7-13-1.

This was the whole point of the original post. The higher ranked team usually wins regardless of coach.
Anyone that thinks our program is regressing is ignorant to facts. We have room for improvment, but we rae better off than we were just a few years ago.

have. Partly because their starting point was lower then ours, but also partly because they have gone ahead of where we are.

My god this is getting bad, its almost becoming unreadable.
The coaches you listed went .500 against ranked USC teams and Dabo is 0-3 against ranked, so NO the history DOESN'T show that his record is in line with the history.
