I'm seriously so sick of hearing about that 1897 Penn team as if that record should even be considered as if it was in the same sport. They said they literally would play high school teams and equivalent clubs back then since there was no standardization.

Also they played a game at Gettysburg, as in YES GETTYSBURG. If your football 'matches' took place at a Civil War battlefield then please just GTFO here that is ancient history. We might as well go back to people that played sports with human heads too to count that as football.

So sick of hearing TV dimwits 'correcting' Dabo about the first to 15-0 statement.

Was the forward pass even legal back then?

no the forward pass did not exist until 1906

in 1906 an incompletion was a turnover

Gettysburg College still exists. I highly doubt they played

Mary Washington College... or now the University of Mary Washington plays on the Battlefield. Most of the college is on the battlefield too.

No football but they do play their other sports on "the battlefield'... as it was the Confederate Artillery spot on Marye's Heights for the Battle of Fredericksburg.

Another note is the Carolina angel. A SC Sergeant cross the field to provide aid to the wounded that resulted in both sides holding fire while water, etc was given to to wounded.
