Clemson assistants - what I am hearing

[127]

I know it has been a busy few days with rumors of Clemson assistants interviewing for other jobs, so let me catch up everybody up with what I am hearing.

I was told earlier today by someone close to Brent Venables that they would be "stunned" if he left. Sounds like Chad Morris is in line for Arkansas and Phil Fulmer at Tennessee has zeroed in on a couple of candidates not named Venables. Looks like what Brent said in an interview yesterday held true - his moral compass told him to be loyal.

Tony Elliott - first off, congrats to Tony on winning the Broyles Award. As you likely heard earlier, UCF hired Josh Huepel.

Now for Jeff Scott - I have been told that he was contacted for the South Alabama job, but reports that he interviewed for it are inaccurate. From everything I've heard, he was contacted but politely said no.

With recruits able to sign on Dec 20th, this coaching staff is out on the road recruiting, and it sounds to me like Clemson will be at "full staff" when they meet Alabama on New Year's Day.

Thank you Spud. I feel so much better knowing that if in the future someone on the staff leaves that it is going to be in capable hands.

Are they as good as #42 at the end of the third quarter the other night?

Selfishly this is great. However, in reality, all 3 of these guys deserve to be head coaches and spread the message that Clemson has delivered since 2011.

Here's to hoping they all get offers that match their talent level in the future

Why do you assume head coaching is ideal for everyone. Best coaching team I respect is Beamer/Foster. Stable, loyal, built something special. People that know Foster say he has no regrets. Seems like a very successful life.

Amen to that. Not sure why someone would td this post. I knew what you were saying. Obviously there’s no better combo than our coaches but beyond that, I do respect Foster. I can relate. Had other opportunities but like what I’m doing. Nothing wrong with that.

Re: Beamer and Foster

You do recall how many head coaching jobs Bud Foster tried to land right? Including the one Dabo Swinney holds now. He'd have left for the right opening. And the reason he never got one wasn't for lack of trying

That's like saying to the happily married man, "I hope your wife finds the right man one day, she deserves it. Then she can spread the word".

And what does "deserving" a head coaching job have to do with anything. These guys are presented with coaching opportunities all the time. You don't need to "feel" for them. They're not prisoners. The fact that they stay is a tribute to the culture and strength of the program at Clemson and the value we recognize in each of the coaches.

The grass is not always greener. This speaks highly of our coaching staff and specifically to their self awareness. They know this is a good place and apparently love it. That’s rare in the coaching profession. Very happy with who we have. There’s a special family here.

Thank you for this and for all that you do. It's an impressive and thoughtful product you consistently put forward in chronicling of our Tigers.

Awesome news Daivd. I am not ready for this ride to end yet. I know Dabo would probably get someone in that could handle the job but I know what we have now. We have such a great coaching staff at the moment.

Is it true that Joey Batson is leaving to become the CEO of Gold's Gym, and is Perry Noble still the team Chaplain?

Also, is it true that if Venables leaves, Jack Hines is on speed dial to replace him?

TIA!!!

Then you might want to also ask that "close to BV person" about this too. Don't see it happening (lateral move to Ark vs staying with a perennial playoff contender...), but it's being posted all around:

I, like many of you, find ourselves in a quandary. We want every member of our staff to be the envy of every other school but, for reasons that need no enumeration, we want them to stay. It's somewhat like our children when they reach adulthood and ready to leave the nest, we hate to see them leave but recognize they are ready and capable of seeking new adventures.

Thanks for the awesome reporting you and Nikki do providing the best news about Clemson athletics. I think it’s great that you have a beautiful wife who shares the same interest that you do and is able to travel with you to so many different sporting events. I know you guys work very hard but it seems like it would be fun too.

May God Bless you and Nikki , your marriage and your continued work with Clemson. You guys are really appreciated for the product you provide to the Clemson Family. Thank you for the great job you guys do. Your work is first rate.

Thank you, this confirms what I said yesterday, Jeff Stott isn't going any where. He has bumped Brad in the back ever since he was a small child, and as long as Brad is working at Clemson, Jeff isn't going any where!!! That is a very solid Father & Son relationship!!!!

Awesome I'm glad to hear. Though I do believe that this only delays the inevitable. If we win another national championship then I am willing to bet by the end of the 2018 season we will lose one of our assistants if not two.

Winning is like blood in the water for sharks. More blood = more sharks. We wont be able to fend them off forever but I'm also not worried. I know Dabo has a knack for spotting talent and he will make another genius hire.
