Clemson already a playoff lock, even with a loss to UVA?

This has been a topic many analyst have tackled the last couple of days. It's interesting how the narrative has changed. Many analysts now say we are a lock, regardless.
I've been thinking about this, and I think I agree with them. Despite the season long narrative, I think we are in, even if we lose (not gonna happen, but anyway)...
Bear made a great analogy on his podcast yesterday. He said, "Clemson is closer to 1 than they are to 4". That makes a lot of sense. If LSU wins and we lose, I don't see both Utah and OU getting in with Clemson out.

Always root for MAXIMUM CHAOS

Here's what that looks like for us:
Clemson dominates UVA UGA dominates LSU Wisconsin dominates OSU Baylor beats OU in triple OT Oregon dominates Utah
Final 4: 1) Clemson 2) UGA 3) Oregon 4) Baylor

No 2 loss Champion has ever got in. So Oregon will not be in.

Well technically "maximum chaos" would mean UVA beats Clemson so I'm not down with that. I'm down for substantial chaos....how about that?
But also....no.....Oregon doesn't get in CFP - maybe beat Utah for Rose Bowl.

You may know more, or even read more narratives, but everything I have seen says Clemson is out if they lose to Virginia.

The narrative changed because the remaining games on the schedule were played. Alabama, Auburn, Wisconsin, Penn State, Oregon, Minnesota are no longer contenders. The pool of teams to make the playoffs is smaller.
I think we get in with a loss if 1) LSU beats UGA 2) Oregon beats Utah and 3) OSU beats Wisconsin. That would leave OSU LSU as 1/2. 3/4 spot go to Clemson and winner of oklahoma/baylor game.
If UGA wins they are in along with LSU and OSU. If Clemson lost we would be up for the 4th spot vs oklahoma/baylor winner and Utah should they win.

UGA might actually get in ahead of us still.

Especially if they played LSU close. It would be nauseating and i would basically have to avoid all CFB media and websites prior to the selection show and for at least a week or two afterwards.

I'm glad none of this (admittedly fun) speculation is going on in the Clemson locker room. Dabo's said many times, you can't win "x+1" games until you win "x" games. He's got them totally focused on UVA, and they're going to roll. So we ultimately don't have to worry about it.
But we can still talk about it.

Nope.

The only way we would possibly get in would be purely on "eye test" which everyone around here hates. We wouldn't be a conference champion and we wouldn't have a better resume than any other 1-loss team.

Only if 5, 6, 7, and perhaps 8 lose as well (not even sure if all of them play another game). Lose, and we are out.
