Give Fuente some time. I think he's got us going in the right direction and actually ahead of schedule IMO. Another year or two and I think we'll see a much more deep, talented team.

When I was a student back in '86, we rolled into Death Valley and beat CU who, prior to that game, hadn't lost a non-conference home opener in like two decades.
That should answer your friend's question.

I was at all of those games in the 1980s. One loss in 10 games between 1977 and 1989 ain't bad. If it weren't for the god-forsaken Tommy Bowden years, that'd be the only win in this series for you guys since 1954.

Without a doubt but if you remember, VT was not in great shape conference wise. It made a pretty big difference back in the day.

god, you just gave me a flashback to that terrible 38-7 thrashing down there in 1978. We had no chance and scored on a Larry Fallon kick-off return. This team is not that team though and has far superior athletes and coaching. We are maybe a bit overrated at No. 12 so far, so I think man-to-man, Clemson is just stronger and it's going to be tough to get a win, but not necessarily impossible like way back then. For me Clemson is less of a mystery than Tech. I am interested to see what our coaches have prepared and how our team reacts. Hopefully, the lean, late Beamer years are behind us.

I was on the sidelines two years ago for the GT - VT game in Atlanta, right next to the VT bench. I think Beamer is a class guy and excellent coach, but that night he had no idea what was going on. During time-outs, his assistants were in the middle of the huddle or talking to the quarterback and Frank would just stand on the outside of the group of players ...... Not sure he was even listening. Hope that was just a temporary thing and that his health is good.
