Christian Wilkins

Jan 15, 2016, 4:08 PM

What is the thought and/or possibility of Christian Wilkins switching from DT to DE. 6'5 299 and he has the speed. After Lawson and Dodd Departure Wilkins might be an answer at DE..

I understand how talented his is in the middle but with Pagano and Watkins now coming back plus we have some serious Hog mollies of DT we got last year and this year he has the talent and size to be another Lawson/Dodd. Plus he has proved that he handles big moments and most importantly he is a smart player.

I could see him play DE on run downs like Seattle did with 6'4 330 pound Red Bryant but him at DE full time would be wasting his talent .

Wilkins will bulk up after a off season with the strength coaches, he's made for the middle. I can't wait to see him 2nd year in this program. We have young and raw de coming along so I wanna see what's in store too.

My first thought process was he would lean and bulk to stay in the middle but after watching him run and seeing how athletic this kid really is.. wow... and I am still waiting to see in Tanner Muse turns out to be the player I thought we would be... He can easily replace Kearse in Size but from what I have heard is that he has trouble covering .. only time will tell..

You have to imagine that, just for fun, Brent Venables throws a 3-4 out there at some point next season with an Austin Bryant, Carlos Watkins, and Christian Wilkins in front of Boulware, Rahshaun Smith, Chad Smith, and Tre Lamar, just to bring the heat. That would be so fun to watch.

Go Tigers!

that would be pretty insane to see... talking about throwing an opposing team off LOL.. I don't think BV has every ran a 3-4 has he?

Yeah vs Fsu in 2014 when Famous was out we ran some 3-4 looks

After going back and watching some of the game I take back what I said.

3-4

Jan 15, 2016, 6:20 PM [ in reply to Re: Christian Wilkins ]

More like

Wilkins - Lawrence - Watkins

BB - C. smith - Tre Lamar - Shaq Smith

Wow, that would be a nasty wrinkle.

not in a 4-3 & ...

Jan 15, 2016, 4:25 PM

3-4 scheme DE's are typically runstuffing DT's to the left & right of the nose, the pass rushers in the 3-4 scheme-OLB's. I don't see how he could be quick enough to play DE in 4-3 scheme

Christian ran a 4.8 at 6'4 300 pounds his senior year in High School.. And Better yet go watch some film from this year and watch how quick he is getting off the ball.

Re: not in a 4-3 & ...

Exactly. There's not many positions on the field that he couldn't play. Even watching him play basketball, it's amazing to me that he's 300+ lbs the way he moves around. Just a tremendous athlete

Jan 15, 2016, 4:52 PM

No Austin Bryant is going to be a good DE, I just hope he puts on a little more weight. but Christian is a different type of player in my eyes. This kid has the ability probably to do what ever he wants.. and just to kind give you perspective of what I mean.. Austin ran a 4.97 at almost 75 pounds lighter than Christian.

A dominant front 7 makes our DBs less important - that is, these guys will pressure the QB so we have time to develop some DBs next year.
