Christian McCaffrey

Nov 9, 2018, 10:02 AM

might be one of the best players in the NFL right now. Has there ever even been a Caucasian running back in the NFL? I’m not talking about back when America was great, I’m talking about the last 20-30 years or so....

He’s like Tiger Woods transcending the racial stereotypes of his sport.

Re: John Riggins***

Riggins was tough. I never cared for the Redskins, but admired the way Riggins played...he just ran over people like a steamroller. Much like Earl Campbell.

Nov 9, 2018, 10:12 AM [ in reply to John Riggins*** ]

Riggins surprised people his whole career because he was actually a FAST big old caucasian running back. Not Bo Jackson fast by any stretch, but much faster than average. (AND he could run over you. The Jets letting him get away to the Deadskins is just another example of how far back their front office ineptitude goes.

So a story from memory without researching it: Supposedly Big John was at a supper gathering of Washington elite and celebrities... John gets whoopy-do drunk and falls out of his chair, goes under the table and resurfaces right next to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who kinda goes.."REALLY!" and John recognizes her and goes.."lighten-up, Sandy Baby"...

Danny Woodhead

Nov 9, 2018, 10:10 AM

Only other ones I can think of were technically fullbacks.

Craig James was pretty good for a few years. Until it was reported that he killed five hookers at SMU. That pretty much derailed his career.

I remember when Craig James killed five hookers at SMU

Nov 9, 2018, 10:23 AM

It was a sad day when I found out that Craig James killed five hookers at SMU.

Merle Hodge played in the 90's and was solid.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Peyton Hillis several years back for the Browns

Nov 9, 2018, 10:19 AM

He was good enough at the time to make the cover of Madden 2012. There have been plenty of white fullbacks.

It is true that there has never been a white RB like McCaffrey. He is just a freak. His Dad was a freak too.

All the freaks are not on the football field, we have a few on this board.

(The devil made me do it !!!)

There's probably been more than you think. Rex Burkhead, Toby Gerhart, Mike Alstott, Danny Woodhead, and Peyton Hillis are all within recent memory.

A BADDDDD man was Larry Csonka

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Toby Gerhart was Heisman runner-up, barely, in 2009,

Nov 9, 2018, 10:54 AM [ in reply to Re: Christian McCaffrey ]

one of 2 running backs ahead of our CJ Spiller.
I'm sure Spiller would have been higher if we
didn't have 5 losses that year.

Gerhart was one of 5 runner-ups from Stanford
since then, including Andrew Luck twice, McCaffery,
and Bryce Love.

Mike Alstott***

Nov 9, 2018, 11:56 AM

Also you might want to change your qualifier to "great RB in the NFL", because there have been TONS of white RBs in the last 20 years. Burkhead, Woodhead, McCaffrey are all current players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Mike Alstott***

Nov 9, 2018, 5:26 PM

I realize there have been and are white RB's, a handful of them anyway but yes I meant players that stand out at the position.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Christian McCaffrey

Nov 9, 2018, 1:54 PM

The only position in the NFL where there hasn’t been a single white person start in over a decade is cornerback. Jason Sehorn of the Giants is the last white person to start at cornerback in the NFL. His last year was 2003.

Mike Alstott

Nov 9, 2018, 5:21 PM

Peyton Hillis was pretty good for that one year.
Alstott has been the best since John Riggins and Larry Csonka before him. McCaffrey could end up being better, but he will need at least a few more years.
