Mayfield was probably referring to the fact Oklahoma had defeated Ohio State in Columbus but Ohio State was ranked higher in both major polls (AP & Coaches). The Playoff Committee has Oklahoma No. 5 and Ohio State No. 6.

I still remember Shaq putting him on his back several times in the playoff. You could see the fear in his eyes. I'd expect it would be no different facing Bryant and/or Clelin off the edge. He would be running for his life.
