Can someone explain this? According to the State paper,

Dec 23, 2015, 9:01 AM

coot committment DB Chris Smith of South Pointe was planning to enroll in January, but Mushchamp has told him they don't have room for him in January, but the scholarship offer is still good if he comes in in August.

How can they have room for him in August, if they don't have room for him in January?

I believe the 85 rule applies at any time of the year.

Early Eenrollees count towards the previous year (2015).

Dec 23, 2015, 9:26 AM

With their other EE's they don't have space under the 2015 schollies, but will have space under the 2016 class.

They simply want to get certain people in early so they can go through spring ball. Chris Smith isn't one of those players.

not always. an early enrollee can and usually does count 'backwards". but they can actually count forward (in this case, the 25 limit of the 16 class) if there is not enough room to count backwards.you always want to count back when you can. and either way, you still have the 25/85 ship limits and squad size (believe it is 110/115.. 110 before classes start, 115 afterwards) to deal with.

^^ That's right.

Bottom line is, they're holding out for better offers...

They're letting in JaMarcus King (4* Juco player) instead of the 2* guy from Rock Hill. Both are DB's.

Jan enrollee counts towards previous year 25. With McIlwain

announcing his intention to enroll early they had to decline another because that would put them over the 25 cap in last years recruiting cycle. Hope this makes sense. Seems shady but really just a numbers game and you have to let your future QB enroll early if he desires and get an extra spring under his belt.
