I'd be stunned if the NC Panthers drafted a Clemson player***

They seem to have an aversion to drafting Clemson players

Feb 18, 2016, 10:24 AM

Martavis went in the 4th round. Think the Panthers could have used him?

Panthers and Ravens are the only teams

to never draft a Clemson player.

31 teams passed on him several times. The Panthers weren't

alone on that one.

But 31 of those teams weren't 2 hours down the road.

It is unusual that, given how often pro teams will draft local(ish) guys because of how easy it is to evaluate them in person (e.g. Chargers and Antonio Gates, Ravens and Ray Rice, Eagles and McCoy) that the Panthers have never (off the top of my head) drafted a Clemson player--especially when they played home games IN Clemson. The Falcons don't seem to mind taking the trek up 85.

They never seem to be in a position to take one of Clemson's top guys. I was hoping that Hopkins would make it back around to them in the second round in 2013, but it didn't work out. And there's no way anybody could be disappointed with Kuechly that year. I was hoping they could get Watkins in 2014, but it would've cost too much to trade up that high. Last year with Beasley, Anthony, and Jarrett, Beasley went too high, they didn't really need to spend a 1st round pick on another MLB, and they were loaded at DT. I was hoping Garry Peters would stick because they were thin at CB, but he seemed to be hurt most of the offseason which is never good when you're trying to make a team as an undrafted guy.

QBs only completed 11 passes against Alexander ?
Man , that is astonishing . Less than 1 pass per game average .
Is there any question at all that he isn't a 1st round take ?

DB23

Yeah im surprised he isn't projected to go higher

Feb 19, 2016, 8:58 AM

He is projected as a low 1st round pick in just about all the mock drafts. Maybe its because he only played for 2yrs? Idk but after watching him play during his time at Clemson he should no doubt be drafted in the first 15 picks. I think his best asset is not his lockdown coverage but his open field tackling. He's got to be the one of best if the best DB in this draft at tackling, i don't recall ever seeing him miss a tackle
