He was a great coach and I think the game has passed him by a little. However I think mainly his talent level has gone down.

Crazy thing is after 33 years he has 11 draft picks in first or 2nd rounds.

Venables might match that or beat it this coming year, he is at 10 now

Yeah, he was the hot commodity there for many years but his reduction in talent hurt him and it has shown the last couple of years.

beamer left. I'm surprised, I thought the coaching hire was the best one at the time. Guess i'm not AD material.

I wouldn't necessarily count them out yet. Beamer was at VTech for 29 seasons...Fuente started out hot, but there's bound to be some peaks & valleys when making such a significant transition. I have a bit of a soft-spot for the Hokies, so hopefully last year was a "bottoming out" for the program and they can get themselves back on track here in the future.
