I heard that the Firehouse Subs in Downtown Clemson closed..

It seems to be another in a trend of closings / re-locations. In the past year we have Brioso relocate, Mr. Kickerbockers relocate (not far though), and both Little Caesars and Firehouse close down. It will be weird having so many empty buildings along the main street...
My assumption is the rent being asked is too high, and the combination of Highway 93 construction and lack of parking / easy access can't help.
Any thoughts on what could be done going forward? If a Little Caesars and Firehouse Subs can't make it within walking distance of campus I don't know what could move into the locations.

they'd lost between 30 and 50% of their business since all the construction started.

moving the visitors' center hurt downtown as well

instead of having them right next to down town, they now go in and out from the center of campus - Strom Thurmond Inst. and most park remotely out near 76
they do 70,000+ tours a year
but i think he construction on 93 is what hurt the most

I totally agree that Chanelos was great! I loved the Versuvian steak sandwich ! I used to try to recreate it at home but never had bread that was as good as Chanelos !

Unfortunately, the current university administrations actions, demonstrate a complete lack of concern for the city. It’s amazing the small businesses that have survived.

Brioso my fav last 2 yrs since I'd walk past lines & direct to bar..

order my drink, good pasta dish with good bread & olive oil dip and later a large slice of Italian wedding cake while watching other games on tv.
The diners were more upscale, fairly quiet in conversation & not loud student types drinking beer & cheap pizza.
How neat and now gone!

My family went to Your Pie in downtown Clemson and were absolutely impressed with the quality and service of out pizzas . They even let me taste a little of the craft beers to decide. When back in Tiger town will definitely go back....
