Their schedule gets easier in September, and they are at least hitting better. This bullpen thing is just the latest whack-a-mole type problem they've had. Meanwhile, the Mets have a little tougher schedule in September. The Mets and Nats also have a series against each other next week, then another 3 game series to end the year.

So I don't think it's inconceivable that the Nats could beat the Braves 3/4 this weekend. Assuming a Washington win today (which you probably can't, given that they're playing the Cardinals and have blown the last two games late), if the Mets lose 3 out of their next four against the Phillies and Marlins (eh... this doesn't seem super probable), a Nats sweep would put them no more than 1.5 games back with quite a few games still left. That final 3 game series could end up being huge.
