I might be wrong, but I thought Spurrier started focusing

I think it had meant more to them.

I think that is changing.

Many Clemson fans are sick of dealing with South Carolina fans that annoy them.

I suppose now they know how South Carolina fans have felt for so long...

I think he did until he lost 3 out of his first 4 games.....

Perhaps Dabo is going thru a similar learning curve now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no b/c he knows all he has to do is win 9-10 games/year.....

Dec 2, 2013, 12:24 PM

in a pathetic conference and he'll be fine

no EMPHASIS is put on this game by the AD, players, and now i'm convinced......THE FANS

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that's exactly what he did/changed the focus, at least according to this article from Nov 2012...

Clemson has a 65-40-4 lead in the history of the series, and Spurrier attributed his team’s recent reversal of that trend to de-emphasizing the rivalry during his tenure.

“I think we take it less seriously than we used to,” he said. “I think they overdid it prior to (me) coming here. When I was hired, there were signs all over the locker room, the dressing room, the coaches’ offices that said, ‘Beat Clemson.’ They were all over the place.”

During his initial tour of the team’s summer booster club meetings, Spurrier was perplexed to hear so many of the team’s fans say they’d trade a win over Clemson for a loss in every other game of the year.

“I said, ‘My thoughts are the opposite. I’d rather win them all and lose to Clemson if that was the choice,’?” he said. “My belief is you don’t talk about one team the entire year. We take it seriously, but we don’t talk about beating Clemson all year long anymore.

never win the SEC at USuC, he realized that he could keep the white trash masses quiet with a winning record in mythical state championship. Seems Clemson has their own fair share of these type of fans.

Nope...We wouldn't have scheduled EL Cid prior to the game if it didn't mean much.

I feel bad for that poor horse but turnovers killed us.

Anyone who thinks the difference in us winning and losing

Dec 2, 2013, 12:52 PM

is that we didn't care about the game but the other team did.

If you are in that camp, that would be you sir.

Wha? I'm pretty sure we had UGA, FSU and SC highlighted in a big way. You don't lose to a team 4 straight - much less your storied, in-state rival - and not have it circled.

Dec 2, 2013, 12:50 PM

Well maybe if Clemson fans hadn't rubbed it in their faces for 100+ years and told them how important this game was when Clemson was WINNING, it wouldn't mean so much to them now...

Yep! And that was the mentality of our MNC team/the Tiger teams of the '80s...we knew the game was big and important but we didn't give SCU any extra thought throughout the year -- and it WORKED, drove them crazy and we spanked them consistently!!! Little brother syndrome at its finest....GO TIGERS!!
