Bill Spiers

Jun 9, 2015, 2:51 PM

I know this is out of left field, but really smart baseball man with a lot of major league playing experience. Also one of our own. I think he is coaching high school. Any chance, we would make a call to someone like that?

Forgot about him. Seems doable to me. What say the masses?***

Know a scout for a semi-local MLB TM that is connected to CU and OBC Bill W that says this is what CU needs to do. Spiers lives nearby in Cameron and they know each other well. Was trying to get a feel for what he knew but was barged in on by another guy.
May be a possibility. He could work with the punters, too.

...and his daughter is at CU now as well.

I should have been a detective.

A heck of a good guy too. Might have had the longest tenure

in MLB of any former Tiger I can think of. Punted for the Tigers as well when CDF found himself hurting for a punter. He was a very solid utility IF/OF for a long time in Houston and Milwaukee. He's coaching in Calhoun County at a private school I think.

Why not ? He played in the Majors. Jack as nd Wilhelm never did.

Playing in the Majors doesn't mean you are a great coach.

Spiers may be a great coach, but would have zero experience in recruiting. I can't imagine hiring a high school coach, but maybe as an assistant.
