Being dropped to 3rd shouldn’t surprise anyone

Oct 13, 2019, 7:53 PM

When the college football playoff rankings come out we may actually be 4th. We will be in as long as we win out but our schedule won’t allow us to be the top seed or even 2 spot this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really? We could have scored 70+ yesterday if

Oct 13, 2019, 7:56 PM

We kept our starters in. I bet we would still be #2 if we did that. SEC bias is real.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The sec bias is real. But let’s be honest the acc sucks and we will have no marquee wins.***

Yo seem to buy the sec bias...

Oct 13, 2019, 10:02 PM

If you buy into the philosophy that all sec teams are great and everyone else sucks, then you have drunk the koolaid.

unc beat the coots. Is unc bad because they beat the coots or because they played Clemson close or because they lost to App State? The sec preaching just continues with disregard to the rest of the country. They promote themselves better and got ahead of the curve getting espn into their corner and pockets, and unfortunately that is difficult to overcome even with 2 of 3 NC's won by Clemson and the ACC. The self perpetuating mantra of sec being better is ########.

It's not just a media bias. The SEC has a lot bigger fan base. The huge numbers is SEC fans drive the bias much more than the media does. Clemson and FSU are the only schools that have SEC class stadiums and facilities. Let's face it, the SEC schools are not playing in half empty 50,000 seat stadiums. We are Clemson. The rest of the ACC sucks. (Verdict is still out on UNC.) FSU will be back post Willie.

Good point about the programs(facilities) & (2no1inparticular)NFL scouts have an SEC bias?

Where we end up in the final playoff poll will depend on

Oct 13, 2019, 7:58 PM

a lot of things, including how we do as well as how others do.

If we win out, I find it hard to believe we will be less than #2. For one, the likelihood that there will be more than three undefeated teams is very very low. Heck, having more than two undefeated teams is unlikely. Despite all of the chatter right now about all of these undefeated teams being left at the end, the reality is that most teams - even these "invincible" teams right now, will end up losing at least one game.

An undefeated Clemson, with an ACC championship and on a 28-game winning streak, has a great chance of ending up #1 or #2 in the final poll. I'm not sure why you think we couldn't do better than #3, unless you are spending too much time listening to the self-proclaimed experts on TV and on the internet.

If LSU wins out do you not think they will certainly be number 1? If Ohio state or Oklahoma wins out do you not feel certain they will be number 2?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We will not be behind Oklahoma if both us and them win out

Oct 13, 2019, 8:58 PM

We could be behind Ohio State. Big difference in SOS between those two. Ours is/will be as good as Oklahomas overall... likely not Ohio State.

If LSU wins out, Alabama will have a loss and drop below us.
If Ohio State wins out...I'm not sure.??

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

extremely unlikely

Oct 13, 2019, 8:00 PM

However, what if we win out and get left out after beating duke in the ACC championship?

It’s not our fault everyone else is terrible.

We win the games we play and cover 20+ pt spreads (minus UNC). What else can we do Ron?

This is the most likely reason for the swap other than the sec media bias - and YES it is real.

Re: Being dropped to 3rd shouldn’t surprise anyone

Oct 13, 2019, 8:02 PM

Schedule has nothing to do with it or BAMA wouldn’t be #1. BAMA best win Texas A&M, their second best U5Cjr, their schedule to date isn’t better than Clemson, and their next two games are against a really bad Tennessee and Arkansas. Our drop in the polls has nothing to do with schedule.

We didn't donanate NC who lost to Wake & App st.

Thats what voters see

Re: We didn't donanate NC who lost to Wake & App st.

Oct 13, 2019, 10:13 PM

But both went into the "W" column. We get everyone's best shot. Week after week and as long as we win we should be #1. Yep unc lost to a good WF team and looked ahead and past App State to ensure a close Clemson game, but Clemson WON. That is what matters.

The sec bias is just a continuing problem. Stop sucking from the sec ###.

App State is ranked in both polls so there’s that.

Re: Being dropped to 3rd shouldn’t surprise anyone

Oct 13, 2019, 8:20 PM

I disagree. We keep winning and rolling and there could be a 1 loss sec team in playoffs. So we could end up as a 1 or 2 seed.

We will not be less than #2! We hear this every year... I do not see more than two unbeaten teams by years end.. We just need to keep winning..

Re: Being dropped to 3rd shouldn’t surprise anyone

Oct 13, 2019, 10:04 PM

The only reason they’re lobbying so hard to get us dropped in the rankings is so they can get the easiest matchup for their SEC champion in hopes we’ll get roughed up before they have to play us.
It’s ALWAYS about making the easiest possible path for the SEC ...from the Preseason Polls to the Final CFP ranking....every year like clockwork.

The EASIEST path for all other teams is Clemson being left out totally. Extremely unlikely to happen. If it did, it would be even worse for the “Champion”, as the title would always have an asterisk beside it.

Re: Beating Florida isn't that big of a deal.

Oct 13, 2019, 11:13 PM

I think Miami should have beat Florida. Florida should be ranked in the mid to low 20s in the AP if at all. They are basically equivalent to Miami, but they have pumpers at ESPN. Florida's high preseason ranking has a lot to do with their win against Michigan in the bowl game. However, many of Michigan's players sat out of the bowl game because they were afraid they would risk injuries before the upcoming draft.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The question to ask is, "who did we get dropped to 3rd by"?

Oct 13, 2019, 11:17 PM

They are completely irrelevant, and that's especially so on October 13th.
