One reason is that Pitt and Syracuse arent dominant teams this year.

Clemson is ranked 287th nationally in points per game....

and 269th nationally in field goal percentage. As poorly as they shoot the ball at times, this team is fully capable of losing to any team on any given night.
Last night it was free throw shooting. Clemson was just 16 of 31 form the FT line. In spite of going nine plus minutes in the first half without scoring a basket, if they knock-down just a few more FT's last night, they likely win the game.

anyone can beat a good team on a given night. But good teams win consistently which we do not do. Thus, we're not very good IMO.

Because not every shot is made, not every free throw goes in, not every rebound is controlled, not every pass is made successfully, not very foul is avoided, and there are humans playing the game.
Don't we feel that Clemson lost to FSU because of the Law of Large Numbers. - The games where they shoot above the average (the expected true outcome of offensive performance) are more often followed up by a game where they shoot below their average. - Compared to Syracuse, this was the case for their overall shooting percentages. Compared to the rest of the season, their free throw shooting had an off-night. They were due weren't they?
Here is another reason... Clemson has no margin of error when it comes to winning in basketball. Razor thin margin of error.
So we might take some solace.. that when Clemson plays FSU again, the norms should balance back out. Clemson should NOT shoot as poorly, but FSU may not get as many fouls as quickly down in Tallahassee.
Clemson was close to winning even though it had multiple people fall well below their average in shooting percentages. The team shot season low in free throw shooting, and Clemson missed 15 free throws. Clemson could not buy a basket in second half... missed tip ins, layup rebounds, etc.
So how will Clemson respond?
I bet they win Saturday by 7 to 11 points with game decided in last 12 minutes. Jaron makes 3 of 4 threes and DH makes 2 of 3 3s. The team shoots 73% from the line. Rod Hall's shot will struggle.
