Bluffton's Shameik Blackshear arrested, charged with petit larceny

Bluffton High School standout defensive end Shameik Blackshear was arrested Friday and charged with petit larceny, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center log.
According to the log, as of 9:02 p.m. Friday, Blackshear was still confined.
Bluffton Police Department spokesman Maj. Joe Manning said he would not be able to provide more information until Saturday because he was out of the office Friday and had not seen the incident report.
Petit larceny involves theft of goods totaling $2,000 or less.
Blackshear, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound senior, recently signed a national letter of intent to play football at the University of South Carolina despite missing most of the past two seasons with injuries, including a torn ACL in his left knee.
He was the first Gamecocks recruit to submit his letter on signing day Feb.4, though he held no public ceremony and signed at home. Blackshear was rated a four-star prospect by Rivals and 247Sports and is the 18th-ranked player at his position, according to Rivals.
"It's everything that I've ever dreamed of to wake up and see my name on TV and signing papers," Blackshear told GoGamecocks.com on signing day. "I can't wait to get up there, play spring ball and show everyone what I can do."

Spurrier said "Yeah, he's suspended from all team activities indefinitely." When a Columbia reporter pointed out Blackshear wasn't enrolled yet Spurrier took a couple swigs of his 16oz Natty Light and screamed "What do you want me to do Ron?"

As a former prosecutor and an attorney who presently does some criminal defense, I don't think that I have ever seen the Bluffton Police Department put together a complete case for prosecution.
The right attorney gets him off of this scott free.

Kind of suprised hes only facing petit larceny charges. From the reports online it says he entered into someones home to steal the items. So I would have assumed he was looking at burglary charges as well.
