Awesome news. Firebomb police car face life in prison

Sep 25, 2020, 10:54 AM

I don't think they deserve or will get life in prison, but they need to lose their license for life and face heavy fines and heavy work release and at least some time locked up.

If I were a judge I'd ask myself a few questions:

Sep 25, 2020, 11:04 AM

1. Does the crime fit the punishment(within sentencing guidelines)?
2. Does the context of the crime matter to the sentencing(could hate crimes be concluded)?
3. Is the sentence strong enough to deter others from similar action?
4. Will the perpetrators likely end up remorseful and rehabilitated from their actions?

So for the burning of the police van in regards to Life in Prison:
1. No
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No

So if I were judge, like you, I'd come down on the side that Life in Prison being a bit too severe. However, it would certainly be a long time before they were set free under Judge Tigersense.

"I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it."

I hope they got their ballots in the mail

Gov't overreach?

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought crimes had sentencing requirements (min/max).

They're interpreting laws creatively in order to charge them

with federal crimes instead of state/local crimes. The federal crimes have harsher penalties.

People like making crimes federal when it furthers their own

agenda, then they don't like it when those same fed statutes are used in ways they don't like. The call for fed answers to local problems always seems good at the time, but it never ends well. Be careful what you wish for.

Odd article. It reads like the 2 lawyers were just out doing

a little innocent fire-bombing of police vans and now the government wants to get all up in their face about it...

Life in prison is a bit harsh - but the article downplayed what they did a little too much...

I’d put their names on Clemson helmets.

If you don't like the time don't do the crime.
