well in our D the safety doesnt cover #88 like the other night. Also LB generally doesnt cover anybody.

No we didn't. In their defense they haven't had to worry about Mackenzie's side all year , so they got lazy. Linebacker play was not bad. Pretty good I thought, until there was a blocker and they seemed to just let them block them. But safety's were bad.personally think they both need another year, but not if they play like that. Kerase , green and blanks need work. But that's the NFL's problem now.

In all seriousness this is totally dependant on what defense a team runs and what linebacker or safety you are refering to. There is the Free Safety, Strong Safety, Nickelback, Middle LB, Strong Side LB, Weak Side LB, Outside LB. All serve diffrent rolls which are dependant on if a team is running a 4-3 Scheme 3-4 Scheme, Dime or Nickel coverage, Man or Zone.
But to attempt to give a VERY general answer...They are not the same position but a Safety can play a hybrid version of a LB.
LBs are generally for run support and do cover TEs, RBs, or recievers when deemed by the type of Defense that is called
Free Safeties are the deep man coverage and last resort for run support where Strong Safties/Nickelbacks play both run support and WR coverage (taller, thinner, quicker than LBs)
Hope this helps and b no means is this an exhaustive definition, just a VERY quick Cliff Notes version

We don't have positions. All 11 guys just spread out across the field 0-3 yards from the line of scrimmage.
