This list includes Private Schools. The Top 20 US News goal was just among Public Schools.

Yes--accurately, for the most part. Top 50 are dead on! After that, pretty much a coin flip.

This is just another example of why using magazine rankings to run your school is absurd. Naturally, Clemson only touts the USNWR as that is the one whose criteria we use to tun our school. If you want to use them, take all the so called reputable publications, average them, and publish that as the overall ranking. This will prevent manipulating the criteria used by one (former) magazine.

153 is about where we are in the US News rankings when private schools are factored in. Barker's goal of Top 20 was only top 20 PUBLIC schools. Factor in private institutions and we were 250+ before Barker came along.
So in answer to the original question, Forbes ranks things very similarly to US News.

West Point better than Harvard? I know a lot of West Pointers and that definitely isn't true.

I don't find the Forbes rankings to be very good. Up until the most recent rankings they had Georgia ahead of Georgia Tech. Wow. Looks like they overrate expensive liberal arts schools. I think the US News Rankings make much more sense.

If you are basing your comment about "expensive" on the tuition Forbes has listed, those tuition costs must be wrong. Yes, Georgia looks expensive at $39,000 per year but they've got Clemson listed at $45,000 per year.

small liberal arts colleges. It just doesn't make sense to to that. Two very different approaches to higher education.
Among the national universities that Forbes ranks ahead of Clemson, Virginia Tech jumps out at me as bogus, but they are mostly similar to U.S. News once you segregate out the liberal arts colleges...
