Anyone know anything about old silver tea sets?

Cleaning my mom’s house out for her move.
We found a old silver tea set that was my Grandmothers.
The tray and cups say they are sterling but the pitchers have no markings.
Also about 8 glass coasters with sterling silver trim .
19 forks,spoons and knives that say sterling.
I estimate this stuff to be close to 90 years old.
I’m sure there is some value but how much I don’t have any idea.
What would be the best way to find the value of this stuff.

Look up antique dealers in your area. they are a good source on estate items like you describe.

There is a jewelry store that buys gold and silver and sells old valuables.
I probably will take it by there.
I have seen sets that look just like mine selling for 300-6k.

Also should I shine it or is the patina better to leave.

I’m sure parts are solid but mostly sterling, which is Cooper and silver mix.
The handles and the coaster rims are soiled silver.
Yeah if it’s worth a few thousand I’m going let a pro clean it.

Get an appraisal done by a professional first. You will need to polish the silver, but get a quality product or you can damage the patina.

Clean gently, leave the patina in the 'creases'. If it's really tarnished clean it gently several times instead of all at once. My buddy is an antiques dealer and only uses Hagerty silver foam, rather than something from the piggly wiggly.
Value depends on typical supply demand, is it a rare piece, age, etc. The sterling is worth at a minimum the melt value of silver (it's about 92% silver) If you look closely you will find hallmarks. You can look them up and they will tell you country, year & maker. Go to http://www.925-1000.com
Also, some of the pieces 'could' be older. My grandmother was wed in 1930 and received some silver pieces from mid 1800. At times folks would have a 'family piece' monogrammed for the new bride as a gift.
The main thing is not to be afraid to use and enjoy it.

I’m thinking some of the forks and knives are from the 1800s.
I posted a picture down in the reply’s and you can tell it’s old.
I have read don’t shine it and also do.
I believe this set is valuable so I’m taking it to a pro.
Would love to get it shinning and displayed in my house.
Then leave it to my daughter.

Weigh it and check the price of sterling silver per the ounce. That’s what it’s worth to a jeweler.

There are several quality antique dealers in Camden and I suspect Florence has a few as well. Replacements, Inc. in Greensboro, NC is not going to give you what you want if you were to sell it.

Replacements sells at high retail and sits on things for years or decades before items sell because they are selling to a captive market, older people who aren't comfortable on the internet.
My mother wanted a plate to match her set. Replacements wanted $120 for it while I found several on ebay in similar condition for $20 including shipping.
If you want to see prices that items will sell for in a reasonable amount of time, look on ebay for comparable sales prices.
I'd expect that unless the silver is especially rare and collectible, you'll find that there just isn't that much interest in silver service and because of that realistic sale prices are low.

First, "sterling" is solid silver and all of your pieces that are sterling should be marked. Hillbilly Tiger has it right, except "hallmarks" showing the manufacturer and year made are on English Silver not American. Yours should have the name of the maker. The flat wear looks like Chantilly, by Gorham, or maybe Old Master, by Towle. You can easily find the price of Chantilly or Old Master. For insurance purposes you can use the price that retailers sell it for, but in terms of real value, it is probably worth half that or less. The tray, depending on manufacturer and pattern could be pretty valuable based on weight alone, but if it is common it may not be worth a lot more than the price of silver in a practical sense. Use Wrights Silver Polish and do it yourself.
