Any thoughts on our 11 D players not engaging VT's Oline & rushing QB

In 3rd qtr which resulted in 44yd reception & eventual TD.. When we had them in 3rd & long situation, a 2 TD lead & momentum.
What heard you?

yeah it was poor. Evans was rattled by the rush most of the night and we should have kept it up. We do more going away from whats working than any team I've ever seen and it is something I just dont get

And the players didn't properly execute what was called....which means it should not have been called.

Worst play call of the century.
At that point in the game, their offense was sputtering. It was 3rd and long.
And most importantly. if you give ANY quarterback (even me in my armchair) unlimited time….someone is going to get open.

They were predicting a short quick pass, hence the decision to drop all 11 into coverage. There was no chance they would have completed a pass in front of the first down mark. When the lineman realized Evans wasn't looking short anymore, they rushed him. But by that time he had locked on to #7 and threw a nice ball.
Schematically it was a good call, if only VT threw that short pass.

Offense can only send 5 eligible receivers, why not pass rush at least 2 or 3? If the play had failed perhaps it would have been seen as genius, but the fact that the furthest downfield receiver came up with the reception and the Hokes turned it into points makes it the goat-call of the year.

we gave them the slightest momentum on either side of the ball, it gave them momentum on the other side. One good defensive play got their offense going and vice verse........every time!

that was the craziest play call I have ever seen. Dropping 11 in coverage.. come on. Someone was suppose to rush had to.. I understand rushing 3 but rushing none? weird

better coverage, and VT never throws the ball and we could have run the clock out on that play.
