Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Jan 21, 2015, 12:04 PM

Jake Wright a junior from Chester SC, lifetime die hard Tiger from a die hard Tiger family has committed to play baseball at SC. He is a lefty pitcher/fielder prospect, great student and has attended many of Leggett's camps as well as many football games with his dad/family. I'm guessing that Leggett / LeCroy did not offer which is puzzling that he would be good enough for USC and not Clemson. Maybe Leggett and LeCroy could get him to de-commit and switch to us like Fields did.

maybe USuC offered him a bigger chunk of a scholarship? financial considerations often come into play with baseball players since none of them get a truly full scholarship

I'm done with leggett

Jan 21, 2015, 12:07 PM

That kid played varsity as a 7th grader if I'm thinking about the same kid.

Seems like ole legget is more concerned with northern kids and kids from around Augusta that kids in our backyard

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whatever his reason..no way & shameful to choose to play for the Enemy!

Jan 21, 2015, 12:10 PM

Good luck BUT he will "Never" be a CLEMSON Man..even IF he should win a Natty there!

Clemson will offer so dont worry about this and for the northern recruiting myth usc has more on their roster from virginia on up north and if you stop and think clemson never gives out offers before junior seasons

Re: Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Jan 21, 2015, 12:13 PM

And they will Clemson dont normally give out offers before a kids junior season even starts in baseball

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That strategy puts us behind the 8 ball a good bit

Jan 21, 2015, 4:26 PM

if we'd waited until Deshaun Watson was a JR in high school to offer he probably would've gone somewhere else.

Re: Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Sounds like he went to a camp at usuck and did well and they offered . Think he jump all over his first D1 offer which is okay but plenty of time for Clemson to get him back . If he has gone to the Clemson baseball camps and did well then the coaches know who he is .

Re: Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Jan 21, 2015, 12:38 PM

Cutigers 54 that is exactly what has took place in this situation went to camp last week and they offered and he jumped on it kid is only a junior and if you look at all the usc 2016 and 2017 commits they have like 15 and Clemson in baseball dont make promises that far out never have and probaly never will

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just because he was a fan of Clemson doesn't mean that's

Jan 21, 2015, 12:54 PM

where he should go to college. Sounds like he liked us growing up, but when it comes time to choose a school that offers him the best opportunity to develop into an MLB player, he went with the school that has the better program. Obviously I love Clemson, but if I was a high school player trying to make the MLB, I would go to South Carolina over Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Recent success doesn't equate to better program......

Jan 21, 2015, 1:11 PM

nm

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you are only going to be there for 4 years it sure

Jan 21, 2015, 1:15 PM

matters more how the program is doing now than how it was 20 years ago. And I would say South Carolina has had a better baseball program for a while now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats his second offer first was Winthrop but like i was saying he is just entering his junior year so its not like Clemson is passing him up like alot of people want to lead others to believe making it out to be our staff didnt think he was good enough thats not the case at all the kid is only 16

it's much easier to qualify for academic scholarship money at the Columbia downtown daycare. Add that to whatever fraction of a scholarship they're getting for baseball, and it's probably a no-brainer for some of these kids.

Re: Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Jan 26, 2015, 10:33 PM

Jake is a jr this year. This a good Kid from a good family. His family has devoted a lot of time and money into his young career. His was in Columbia a few weeks ago and had an impressive showing. Including going deep a few times. He has had interest from UNC plus a few others but jack hasn't seemed to get the memo yet. Kinda sad being he's been to several camps in Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Jan 26, 2015, 10:38 PM

kind of a slight difference in interest and offers. the kid is a junior. we rarely offer kids that havent even played a game their junior year. if he and his family are clemson fans and he has a good year an offer still may come his way. let me guess you are one that thinks jack just recruits yankees.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've heard like half their team roots for Clemson in FB

Jan 21, 2015, 4:24 PM

but either they weren't offered, they got better offers from Sakerlina, or they thought going there gave them a better chance to get to the big leagues.

If they're beating us with mostly players we didn't want as badly as they did, that's a major problem.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who's taking his SAT for him like another CU snub ?!?!?!?

Jan 21, 2015, 5:00 PM

You know who broke his dad's heart and went Chicken Salad on us a few years ago...

It's crazy that 25 years ago when Ray Tanner was at NC State, he was the most hated man in NC when it comes to baseball--from players, to parents, to HS coaches. Push the clock forward to the late '90s & '00s and he is the guy who scoops up all the players from the state of SC. Looks like Tanner figured something out that Leggett can't do for himself.

Re: Another die hard Clemson fan commits to coots in baseball

Jan 27, 2015, 2:34 PM

I know what I am saying and its shared by a lot of fans. This program has slipped badly under JL and you know it. Last year was a dismal failure. Recruiting was not near as good as in the past. If this season is just as bad as last year or worse , how can you defend JL ?

Jan 26, 2015, 10:27 PM [ in reply to scholly or not, he can't be too diehard of a fan to go to ]

is the % of a schollie they are offering, what other financial aid packages are available, and the cost of tuition elsewhere. Just because each school is offering the same percentage of a scholarship it could still cost the player more money to select school B over school A.
