An A&M friend of mine said that he is hearing that they are

Nov 28, 2014, 10:03 PM

Coming after Venables. I told him that he would be making a lateral move which doesn't make sense. He has been mentioned as a HC candidate for some openings. Anybody hearing anything on this. Doesn't make much sense unless he just wants to get back west.

They think now that they're in the SEC they can just go after any coach they want. He won't move laterally. Its more likely that he would take the HC job at Kansas if they offer him.

I heard the rumor but doubt he leaves

It would be a lateral move and he would be leaving a program he has established as one of the best in the country. Makes no sense unless there are circumstances we don't know about.

So what about him coming from OK to CU, where he was a DC, wasnt a lateral move?

And how is 1 year fielding a good defense having established anything?

Losing almost your entire 2 deep on DL and 7 of 11 starters on D in general would be enough to consider the move. Not to mention, he is from that part of the country and aTm is very trendy right now.

Like you, I think your friend is dreaming. Coach V loses a lot from this team but can't see him jumping ship. And I think Dabo will be giving him a nice raise to keep him.
Go Tigers!!

A&M no where near the caliber of program as Clemson. Can't blame them for dreaming though.

Venables and Sumlin are very good friends From their days in staff at Oklahoma. Still it is only a lateral move. We do lose a lot of players and TAMU has a lot of young and talented 5 and 4 star defensive players returning.
