Duh!
Charleston, the largest and richest city in the American colonies, in 1776, was invaded and held by the British for most of the Revolutionary War.
Washington, DC, was burned by the British in the War of 1812.
And, of course, most of the CSA was invaded by that army from the north. (Most southerners did NOT soon forget about Sherman's march, where they burned Atlanta, Columbia, burned most of the crops and farms, killed farm animsls (over their food needs), killed women trying to protect their property and virtue, and stole ernormous amounts of silver and vsluables.) Our grandparents hated Sherman.
