Sagarin, the ACC picture, personnel

Oct 8, 2006, 12:32 PM

Wow, 17 points down and out of nowhere 24 unanswered points to win. N.C. State upsets Florida State and GaTech avoids an upset against Maryland.

Sagarin

As it stands, according to Sagarin's computer ratings, somewhat surprisingly, the Atlantic Division is much stronger than the Coastal.

Atlantic
#47 North Carolina State 2-0 3-2
#11 Clemson 3-1 5-1
#39 Wake Forest 1-1 5-1
#22 Boston College (25) 1-1 4-1
#41 Florida State (17) 1-2 3-2
#65 Maryland 0-1 3-2

Coastal
#40 Georgia Tech 3-0 5-1
#43 Virginia Tech 2-1 4-1
#63 Miami (FL) 1-1 3-2
#106 Virginia 1-1 2-4
#127 North Carolina 0-3 1-4
#158 Duke 0-3 0-5

The ACC picture

With losses to Akron and Southern Miss, N.C. State wasn't really on most people's radar screens. Now, the two Techs and the N.C. State game loom large on the schedule.

B.C. has Virginia Tech this Thursday and travels to Tallahassee on the 21st. Hopefully, one of those two outings will produce a loss. B.C. also travels to Wake and Miami later on.

Personnel

Injuries are beginning to be a big question. Billie, Stuckey and Taylor, our star linebacker at the beginning of the season, our best wide receiver last week and one of our better big, physical back up wide receivers at the Wake game, respectively, are out, except for maybe Stuckey, who says he wants to return for VaTech. Fortunately, Spiller (104 yards rushing + 18 receiving), Davis (95 rush + 48 receiving) and Kelly (91 receiving) looked solid.

Proctor, who looked so perfect up to now, threw a lot of ill-advised passes at Wake. Was it a wet ball? The Wake corners? The game situation?

And what's up with Dean? He was so good last year. It seems that just about anyone could kick _higher_ than him. His extra points dribble over the goal post.
