Texas A&M beat them on the road.

A&M lost to Fla after their warm up was rained out by a hurricane. Fla got pounded by Louisville. And on and on...

So you're saying UofL would beat Bama?..

Then I guess Kentucky would play Alabama to within a touchdown since they only lost to UGA by 5 and UGA only lost to Bama by 4.

Bama is the best championship game team in the nation. They were not the best team this year if you take the season as a whole. Saban is the best big game coach in the nation and he proved it once again. If you are going to beat Bama it better be in the regular season.

According to USuC there is the ever present distributive property of conference affiliation that makes them elite.

Actually, it proved the importance of....

a really big and physical offensive line. The running game is just a benefactor of a quality OL. Almost anyone could run the ball successfully behind Bama's OL.

agree, but NOBODY in the country is capable of........

getting the amount of 4 and 5 star Olineman to come to their school.........they have 4 and 5 stars on their 2 deep.........so while it IS very important.........it's also unrealistic for the majority of college football to be able to have an oline like that just based on talent alone.........that's why college football is a "spread offense" league now b/c unless you are the elite of elite teams you can't run a "power game" like bama........don't matter how coached up you are.

T.J. Yeldon and Eddie Lacey are both very good backs...

and the purpose of this post is not to diminish their accomplishments in any way, but a lot of runningbacks would have a great deal of success running behind Bama's offensive line.

I think there are at least 8 top 10 teams better than ND....
Jan 8, 2013, 8:49 AM

they went undefeated so they shoulda been playing for the NC, but they had some very close games against some mediocre competition
Oregon and bama are, IMO, far and away the top 2 teams in the country............and they have been all season even with their losses

It proved ND isn't CLOSE to the elite team ESPN was

trying to sell. It also proved that Nick Saban won't run the score up on an out-manned opponent.

I will say again, Oregon's loss in OT to Stanford is a much

better loss than TAMU in regulation. Oregon could beat Bama. You think Saban wants anything to do with that offense?

more and does not receover...that is why early rankings are important to ESPN, etc. getting who they want in the big games. They were moved back up more quickly than ANYONE and were beating nobody at the end of the season.

I think Bama still beats Oregon...

given that 40 day period to prepare. Saban can put together a gameplan like no other given the time.
Oregon would have made a better game, but faced a similar fate.
Remember the BCS title a few years back with AU and Oregon? That high-flying offense couldn't put up points on a very average Auburn defense.
We will never know the true result, but ND earned the right to play in that game over Oregon. ND was able to beat Stanford and Oregon was not under nearly the exact same circumstances.

An Oregon/Bama match-up...
Jan 8, 2013, 10:02 AM

would have come down to Bama's ability to play a ball control offense and keep the Oregon offense off the field.
If Oregon could get its fast-paced offense going in high gear, they would have all of those big Bama defenders gasping for air just like the Clemson offense did to LSU's defense.
