A look back on the 2017 Recruiting Class

Sep 17, 2019, 7:54 AM

I'm sure there are many examples of this that work both ways but I thought it interesting how the discrepancy between FSU and Clemson developed players is so apparent from the 2017 class. FSU with 3 guys in the top 10!! Clemson only has Tee Higgins and AJ Terrell from the top 100...

It doesn't matter how fancy and pretty they are. ;)

It's easy to see why Clemson, Bama, and Ugay are currently at the top of the polls. All 3 hit on some impressive players. Etienne, Tua, Najee Harris, Amari, Tee, Andrew Thomas, Moses, Jeudy, Swift, and Aj Terrell to name a few.

One of these teams is not like the others.

That has been the story of our success. Over the last 5 or so years, our recruiting has been in the bottom half of the top 10, but we have been 1 or 2 in wins. Either the staff knows how to develop talent or how to recognize talent better than the rest.

Look at the players the staff

Doesn't really even recruit until really late in the cycle and manages to land. ETN, Simmons, Turner, Wallace and Goodrich are current examples. If memory serves (highly suspect!), Putnam and Davis were pretty late with showing strong interest by the staff...oh, and Dukes.

Interesting to see how many Stanford players are on there and they look terrible this year from what I have seen.

If we got to redo this draft class it would look so different if you ask me. Would be the Bama and Clemson show with some Georgia sprinkled in.
