Nov 1, 2012, 5:20 PM

because my health insurance is going up by $30 a week as of Jan. 1. That's $1,560 a year. My wife's health insurance is going up $20 per week. That's another $1,040 a year for a total of $2,600 a year. I will remember that when I vote Tuesday.

worst after the constant mantras of doom and gloom about obama care that you hear all the time on fox news. But after ten or twelve years of geometric increases in health insurance premium costs, this years increase is the smallest yet. And when combined with the small tax credit I got , and then the nice refund from the carrier for unused health care payments, this is the best year I have had in a long time. My bookkeeper told me the other day that if Obamacare is repealed , we will have to seriously consider dumping health ins for our employees , which i would not want to do if i can help it.

Re: As a small business owner, I was prepared for the...

Nov 1, 2012, 10:21 PM

Also ask about maternity coverage! Obamacare will not take full affect until 2014 if its not repealed. Also do you provide healthcare for your prt time employees? But it will also depend on how many employees you have. If you hit the # of employees mark then you will be forced to provide healthcare to every one of them not just full time. Also you your premiums per employee will go up because of forced contraceptives and birth control charges you will pay out of pocket for your female employees. Furthermore your company could be all forced into only using a specific doctor, not the doctor of your choice. Furthermore there are huge regulations on doctors so much so that it will prevent many young people from wanting to put the time and effort in to become "great" doctors. Price of prescriptions will rise because of the strict regulations put on pharmaceutical companies. Taxes on your business will sky rocket because the money to pay for Obamacare has to come from somewhere. Medicare takes a huge hit and the elderly will have to pay more out of pocket which they cannot afford because they are already on a fixed income. He "freeloaders" will increase by about 25% because college students will fall under this. Heir parents will realize that their premiums will drop because the government will pick up the check. As of right now Medicaid picks up the check for the lower class, which are proven to "abuse" the system the most. Obamacare actually promotes more people to receive these benefits.

Forcing someone to do something is socialism.

Letting people have a choice is Freedom!

Re: As a small business owner, I was prepared for the...

Nov 1, 2012, 10:39 PM

Further more once these companies are forced into health care do you really believe a private business will just eat the cost?? No the cost of doing business will sky rocket because the price of Obamacare will be passed on to the consumers and tax payers! Every product you buy for your business or for your personal use will go up as much as75% in some experts eyes. Obamacare will send this country towards the way a Greece. And once we hit 20 trillion in debt we will reach our GDP wich means that no one will lend us anymore money. At that point the only way to cut the debt is inflation. Basically the dollar will be worth about half of what it is now. Which will cause major economic depressions, not just here but world wide. Also these kind of regulations will all but destroy entrepreneurship. Obama truly want a country that is completely dependant on the government. Equality is how he is selling it. The problem with that is there is no such thing as equality. It's a myth. A person that dropped out of high school and has no skill set what so ever does not and never will have the same value of a Doctor or a extricate engineer. But Obama believes that the drop out and the do tor should have the same income.

If you really want to bring down health care cost then the first step is to deregulate health insurance. Let these companies battle for your business across state lines. The truth is the government cannot save us only private enterprise can, but we have to stop regulating them to death.

You do realize the difference is that now FEMA is run by people with actual emergency experience, not the idiots and sycophants (and horse fair judges) that Bush installed. FEMA was enough of a disaster in its own right for 8 years, much less when taxpayers actually needed help from them during hurricanes.

Now that competent people are running FEMA even Chris Christie had to admit that it's working pretty well.

I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this point. First of all, "uncle sugar" does not take care of me--I work more than full-time, and make enough that I'm not among the vilified "47 percent". I work in the private sector as a business consultant and get to see what lots of American companies have to deal with in terms of regulations, compliance, and red tape. Government obviously isn't the solution to our problems, but it has a role to play, especially when it comes to protecting our most vulnerable citizens. The quality of life for all Americans deteriorates when people live in abject poverty with no hope of advancement or social mobility within our midst.

Free market works great hen it's really free. Obama has regulated businesses so much that they can barely operate. But when you decide to stop private industry from working so you can give trillions to your buddies that are working on green energy then you kill free markets.

Claw, I agree 100% that people need help from the government! The problem is that the government has failed these people by making them dependent on the government. Instead of teaching these people "how to fish" we have (has a government) decided that " you know how to fish, so you catch the fish and give it to them". It's a disservice to the lower income to let generation after generation believe and live off of government imposed benefits. I am in favor of welfare, because. I truly believe this is the greatest country on planet Earth!!! But I also believe that these benefits should only be for short term only! I have met too many that have lived off of the government with only working 10-15 hours a week even when asked to work more. Now Obama is trying even harder to make everyone dependant on the government so he can begin re-distribution of wealth.

I completely understand the social libertarian view point but my Christian values make it hard for me to not want to fight against abortion and gay marriage but in the grand scheme of things these things are really irrelevant (except my view of killing unborn babies). History has shown us that lowing income taxes actually increase the amount of taxes we bring in. Social Security and Medicare if run right should be self sufficient and should not matter for normal income taxes. If we just spent money on infrastructure,, defense, borders and take care of the small percentage of people that need (not as large as it is now) we would not need to spend so much and tax so much. We spend so much money that the
Federal government should never be apart of. I guess I would be a Fiscal Libertarian (If there is such a thing) and a social conservative. For h Record Romney is a moderate Democrat and Obama is a very far left Almost Socialist leaning Democrat in my mind. I would want us to hit a reset button on our tax and spending part of our government. Oh and you guys do realize that Beck is a Libertarian right?

Nov 1, 2012, 8:07 PM

You call yourself a Libertarian. So does he. And so does Ron Paul. So how do you align by you words with these two and also call yourself a Fiscal Conservative and still vote for someone like Obama? I just do no understand how anyone thinks that a guy should be able to come into office and spend more than all other president combined and then can go and say we need to raise taxes to pay for this mess? It's crazy and the cost of Obamacare has not even hit the books yet. Why does the "fee" errr "tax" for business cost less than the actually insurance they could provide to there employees? Is this some way to entice business to not buy insurance and just pay the tax? why would that be?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

fact checked myself. Sorry you said Fiscal Moderate

Nov 1, 2012, 6:13 PM

to the costs you will rack up when/if you need to use it. Hospital+doctor+surgeon+rehab+home health care= more than your premium. You should be happy you can afford insurance! Your premiums are going up because as you get older there is a MUCH higher chance of you needing to actually use your insurance. 60,000,000 Americans are about to go on medicare. Thats almost 1/3 of the population! Adding to that the government is cutting medicare benifits just to keep the program afloat means what? It means private insurance is going to continue to rise to offset costs. Its got nothing to do with who is the prez, its a business, a BIG business. So big that the insurance companies now have more lobbiests in Washington than the oil industry AND the pharmaceutical companies. This partisan bullshyt is going to keep the country right where it is, in a mess.

Re: research?

Nov 1, 2012, 6:25 PM

I suspect he is advocating the kind of research in which one types things like "is Obama a communist" and "is Obama a Muslim" into Google. If he could show me an actual passage from Obama's book with all the context, then I might be intrigued. I suspect he's just parroting the right wing blogosphere.

My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Nov 3, 2012, 12:56 AM

I have received on this post is about splitting hairs in difference of personal definitions, but not one single reply "actually" disputing a single "FACT" that I have made!

1) "Socialism is most certainly not forcing someone to do something"!
---sjmasse

A) Yes it is. Welfare, WIC, Medicare, are all examples of active socialism in this country to date plus many more!

2)"There are plenty of places that there is a truly "free" market. Most of africa, for instance, has little-to-no government interference in the economy."
---Coren77

A) Again splitting hairs on definition about "free" market. You state "most" of Africa. My question to you is can you be more specific? Because Alot of Africa that is controlled by drug lords. Those countries are also not republic-democracies either. You are taking "free" market to the extreme; to the point of anarchy. But regardless when any country gives to much commercial or industrial control to the government they fail. The government only exist because of the people. The people are what makes the government work. Not the other way around; government does not make our country work! When the government hires someone; what they really did is take a "worker" from the private sector and pay them with public funds. That is not "creating" jobs that is manupilation of the Obama.
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/fact-check-4-5-million-jobs-created-under-175621036--election.html
Further more common sense will tell you, our should, that more government jobs means more tax payer income to pay for it. Where does that money come from?? Tax the rich even more?? Okay, we'll the problem there is that the rich alread pay about 90% of the the income generated from tax revue in this country. If you tax them more they will "take their ball and go home"! Which means they will stop investing in our economy. Which means they don't start businesses which create jobs!!

So if y'all would like to post then at least have or make some thought provoking ideas! But if y'all are just interested in splitting hairs then refinance from entering an adult conversation!!!
