Who thinks Clemson may be the only "A" rated school

Jan 25, 2012, 2:13 PM

I actually completely agree with her analysis. There were some really high moments and some really low moments, but overall the season was a success.

Clemson was a "shocker" with A+ start, then D finish, so B.

A LOT of T-netters are going to be unhappy with our A

Jan 25, 2012, 2:43 PM

grade! I would give us an A with a really long minus, but she's right (sorry, I just choked when I typed that) - when you compare our end of the year accomplishments and record with our preseason expectations - it was a grade (go figure). For such a young team and a young staff (a fact people often fail to recognize) we did really, really well. Yes, the defense sucked often, but the offense was able to make up for that except in the most egregious circumstances. And yes, the offense had a tendency to choke and give up from time to time, but comebacks like Maryland and Wake showed that they have a lot of heart in spite of their youth.

The only thing that kinda stinks now is expectations going in to 2012 will be high so there will be none of this "well what did you expect us to do this year" like we heard for the 2011 season.

If I'm looking for positives for last season, I'd list a few:
- top 10 recruiting class in spite of 6-7 prior season record
- 42 freshmen on the roster, and numerous freshmen in starter roles
- beat Auburn for first time in forever (1953?)
- beat VT at their house (nobody does that)
- beat VT twice in the same season (nobody does that)
- won EVERY home game
- won the division
- won the conference
- broke many records - too many to list
- beat numerous division or conference champions (I may be wrong about this, but Troy, Wofford, Auburn, FSU, VT all won their division and/or conference the previous season)
- played in a BCS bowl
- Dabo was COTY
- won the first 8 games

I'm sure I missed a bunch of things, but that's a good short list.

Nice post. I'm already counting the days to kickoff.....

Absolutely right. No season is perfect (especially this yr)

Jan 25, 2012, 4:17 PM [ in reply to Re: A LOT of T-netters are going to be unhappy with our A ]

but we had a GREAT season. The only real downside is that our lows were perhaps lower than our highs, but like you addressed - we had far more highs than lows. I choose to look at how well we did over the entire season and not just pull three or four games out of the mix. There are games I'm not proud of, but there are more games that I AM proud of and all of the accomplishments you mentioned as well.

There's just too many dumpers around (everywhere!):
We had a great season and won the ACC!
Yeah, but we lost to SC and got killed in the OB.
It's great to be a Clemson Tiger!
Yeah, but it was better in the 80s.
It's great to have a coach that gets excited about the team!
Yeah, but he shows too much emotion.
It's a beautiful day out today!
Yeah, but it'll be dark when I get home.
It's great weather to have the windows open at night!
Yeah, but the pollen and the crickets bug me.

Maybe instead of dumpers we can call 'em yeahbuts....
