70s upstate bands - Fresh Licks, Garfeel Ruff, #### Child's

Guitar Army, etc. Anybody remember these bands from back in the day? The thread about Eli got me to thinking...

OK, so D_i_c_k is not allowed.

Yeah, but Marshall Tucker hit it real big, and I didn't know any of those guys...

Fresh Licks were from my high school (Carolina HS in Greenville). They were a couple years older than me, but I knew em. Marvin King was lead guitar, and his son Marcus King is doing pretty well now. They won the Battle of the Bands in 1972 (I think) which was pretty big back then, was held at the old Memorial Auditorium and the winner got cash and to cut a record.

Garfeel Ruff had Rickey and Ronnie Godfrey, they were both blind and played in several bands around town back then. In fact, now that I think about it, one of them may have played with Marshall Tucker for a while. I met them at Tanglewood Jr High around 1970.

D_ick Child's Guitar Army played around Clemson a good bit, pretty sure they played at one of the Bengal Balls in the mid-70s. A girl I was dating at CU knew a few of those guys and I partied with them a couple times, can't remember any names right off hand.

Partied at Lake Bowen with MTB. Knew both Ronnie and Ricky Godfrey. Great musicians.

Greenville clubs an awful lot in the 80s too.

Only caught The Agents once in Columbia at a bar across from the stadium, but they were awesome. Phil and the Blanks weren't bad either.

Joyce Kennedy could sing her ### off and goodness, what a band they had. Saw them around 1980 at the Electric Warehouse in Columbia and they blew the roof off the place.
