63-17 vs. 56-7, which one is best?
Feb 13, 2017, 8:19 PM

Trying to decide which beat down I enjoyed more. I was there for both.
Pros for the 63 game: It was in the cockroach, it was vs. Holtz, scored in the 60's.
Pros for the 56 game: Lead to ACC and National titles, larger point differential, played under the lights of Death Valley.
In the end, I really enjoyed both equally and just wanted to create a post where I got to mention both games.

I agree and I was at both it and the 63-17. The 45-0 beatdown was totally dominant, Clemson could have beaten an NFL team that night. The 63-17 game was a stupid junk defense that Holtz tried early and gave us a lot of points, then just total meltdown by the Carolina offense similar to the 56-7 game this year.

63-17 was unexpected so a nice surprise. I kinda expected 56-7 but after all their talk about how "over rated" DW was, it was extra fun to see.

I was there in the middle of them and have to say it was a blast. So funny. If you went to the concession stand in the first half it took forever to get back because of all the coots leaving

56-7 with my dad in the valley
63-17 on the sidelines working for ESPN it got so bad that the coot cheerleaders were flirting with us instead of cheering

Also, because in 2003 it wasn't expected. In 2016, we all knew it was a possibility.

Tough one.
63-17: I was in the hospital with pain killers through an IV. Who needs bourbon when you have morhpine? TV worked, though. Faint memories of "Touchdown Chad Jasmin." Was I dreaming?
56-7: I was there in Death Valley and pulling to beat the margin of victory from the 63-17 game. Met that goal, then found out about the 51-0 beatdown in 1900 (Heisman era). Will have to settle for a "modern era" record margin.
Bottom Line: Guess I will have to go with 56-7. Too many negatives about the hospital stay. Could not stand up.
Either way, never woohooed (is that a word?)
Pertinent video. Heavy on 56-7 with shout outs to 63-17,45-0...... Always good to relive the highlights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcK8RI7fCm0

51-0 still the biggest beatdown. Coots have never recovered in the 116 years since.

What's crazy is either game could've been much worse. 56-7 could've been 70-0.
Shout out to Duane Heydt btw.

56-7 is a bigger beatdown....
Feb 14, 2017, 6:36 AM
|

...and a great rallying cry for this "current" generation of young Clemson fans who grew up in the shadow of an unprecedented 5-game losing streak.
However, IMO 63-17 was a more satisfying beatdown.

I was still in college for that one, it was totally unexpected, and i was in Columbia with a bunch of coot fans eating their steak and drinking their beer while laughing at their football team. It was pretty great.

As much as I love each I can't really judge as I have a different backstory for both. Saw 56-7 on TV by myself at home. But for 63-17 I was helping at an event with plenty of people in attendance. Several TVs were there. The end of the game had many Coot women crying so that part was more fun.
63-17 was a shock to many as the Coots expected to win. 56-7 had most Coot fans immediately dealing with the acceptance phase of grief.

Both were great but to have the 2's and 3's already in the game in the 3rd Quarter, this season was pretty epic. The starters were able to enjoy the beat down with a front row view!

63-17 & here's why....
Feb 15, 2017, 6:51 PM

That year it was so unexpected! It was also the highlight of the year!
This year, the win was huge but the ACC Championship, the beat down of Ohio St and winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP are what SC fans hates the most. That loss was one of many reasons to hate this year.

Don't forget the 45-0 beat down we gave them at Willie B in 89' and 51-0 in 1900. Kicking theirs butts has been a life long experience.
I want to go down to the roach motel WB in 2017 and give them the butt whipping of a life time so they will finally realize Clemson is King of the Mountain!

Living in Cola I can assure anyone the WB blowout over Louser Holtz and crew was so nice! The meltdown in The State was totally epic!! I still have comments among my papers because they are still true today after this season. I just want to bury the memories of their streak with one equal or better and send Muscrap packing with no savior in sight.
Go Tigers!
