50 million dollars

I don't think the 50 mil. exit fee would hold up in a court fight.

It smacks of Restraint of Trade, and the Federal Trade Commision would void it.

It was a stupidly crass idea to begin with...one that

I was surprised to see Clemson support, although I think it was tied into the ND deal. However, I don't hold a J.D. (other than the liquid type,) so I don't know how it would hold up in court.

If true, then what about entrance fees and delays for playing in conf championship games?

Heck, didn't Maryland proclaim they were broke recently? 50 mil must be loose change.

If $50mil doesn't work, why does $12mil work?

(or whatever $$ amount the other teams that have switched conferences have had to pay)? Something tells me those programs had a few lawyers consider other legal options before shelling out that cash.

To me, the dollar amount is moot; it all depends on the contractual agreement of "I will pay X if I do Y."

Plus, with the SEC contracts and profit sharing, how long would it take Maryland to recoup that loss? I bet it's less than 10 years.

Dah, replace "SEC" with "Big 10"***
