4/10, pointy elbows, wood dew

Jan 6, 2016, 10:52 AM

I've ripped a hole in my shirt at my left elbow.

What's a more 'professional' fix?

Leave it as is, & tell people they wouldn't like me when I'm angry?

Staple it shut?

scotch tape??

or fabricate an elbow patch out of the pile of christmas colored hershey kiss wrappers at my desk??

write in votes???

SheGUAR focused her Christmas gift-giving around new shirts....as this is not the first time this has happened recently...nor is it the 2nd thru 6th time this has happened recently (because, fat...like you said)

So I can't really go buy a new shirt with all the new ones at home that I haven't worn yet.

also, going to the gym over lunch (yes...because, fat)

DUDE....this happens to me all the time.........

Jan 6, 2016, 11:04 AM

I don't get more than 30 wears or so out of an oxford shirt before the eventual elbow puncture.

It's a little chilly for my normal solution, but you have to go straight hipster and give each sleeve three good rolls so it's up to your elbow.....covers the hole nicely till you get home.

SRS re:ply to what seems like a SRS re:ply

Jan 6, 2016, 11:08 AM [ in reply to DUDE....this happens to me all the time......... ]

I already double roll.

I H8 sleeves all the way down, plus in my profession, that's just asking them to get all inked up

however, the 3rd roll is nearly impossible.

In the past (i wasn't kidding, this is the 7th time in recent months this has happened....#6 was yesterday) I've dealt with it, gone w/ the 3rd roll, and just dealt w/ the lack of blood flow to my hands....the positions of the tears justified it.

This tear is in a different location, and even a 4th roll wouldn't help it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what kinda shirts you roll with?

Jan 6, 2016, 11:09 AM

I do the Brooks Brothers no-irons because they look like they were just expertly pressed straight outta the dryer, and this seems to be a trend with them.

I do have Bill Lambier elbows though.

Re: what kinda shirts you roll with?

Jan 6, 2016, 11:17 AM [ in reply to what kinda shirts you roll with? ]

at least 5 of the shirts have been Banana Republic Non Iron (which, besides the structural failure at the elbow, generally rock)

Yesterday's victim might've been from Express, which means it's old enough to excuse the failure, being that I don't think I've purchased anything from there since they switched their focus to the euro-trash skinny AF demographic

SheGUAR got me 5 shirts from Christmas....4 of which were BB's non iron, so the future's lookin' bright

are you righty or lefty??

Jan 6, 2016, 11:21 AM [ in reply to 4 sirrus, happens to me too.......can't explain.......... ]

I'm righty, so the left arm kinda is more for leaning on and aiding in opening candy....

I've also wondered if I just need to chill teh fack out on the bicep curls, bruh, but I'd assume that my right arm is bigger than my left and would be more prone to tears....but so far, left arm is pitching a shutout

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

righty also..........I think the "arm on the car window"

Jan 6, 2016, 11:23 AM

theory is pretty solid....I do it too. Also, these seem to happen more in winter, when the skin on your elbows dries out and turns to 400 grit sandpaper.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i rock the 400 grit year-round

Jan 6, 2016, 11:26 AM

like the little girl in Signs that leaves the glasses of water everywhere, I can only assume that one day my sandpaper elbow and I will be called upon in some crazy scenario that only we can fix for the sake of all humanity

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I had a few theories

Jan 6, 2016, 11:14 AM [ in reply to Is your desk made of glass shards? ]

this morning quashed at least 2 of them

i tend to rest my left arm on the window 'sill' of the car as I drive into work...thought something there might be snagging it. Well, the weather the past two days has dictated that I wear a jacket....rules that out

I've almost always noticed the tears in the afternoon, after a lunchtime gym trip. I hang my shirt on the hook on the right side, exposing the left sleeve to the small bolt along the back side of the locker....the positioning doesn't really jive w/ the fairly consistent locations of the tears, but didn't want to discount it....well, I haven't been to the gym yet today, soooooo

Then, my desk...there IS a seam where two panels meet near my left arm, but the tear is higher...not 'under' my elbow when I'm resting it.

There's alos the hulk theory, which I don't think needs further explanation
