Like the idea of conferences going to the two best teams and not a game between divisions. Still leaves a problem with an independent team. An independent team in my opinion should be required to play the 5th best team in the country to be considered for a raking in the top 4. It's not right for the independent team to have time off to heal and extra time to prepare for the playoff, Just my thought.

Just like the 4 team CFP, there would always be an argument on who the best 2 were, especially from the 3rd place team.

There are 5 other div1 conferences full of teams and none of them get special treatment.

Here is the problem with that logic.... you can have back-to-back rematches. You can have a three-way tie.
31-0hio State and Michigan were the two "best" teams in a conference. If they did the "2 best", they would play in back-to-back weekend. Yuck. That means "all games matter" except the first game. We nearly had this scenario with the BXII and thankfully the wheels came off the WVU wagon.
Next, do you count conference games or all games? If you only count conference games, you might not stop the "Pitt" problem. You can have a 8/7 win "conference" team that stinks it up to OOC games at 0-4 with FCS losses.
Worse, you could have three 7-1 teams. Assume a year that FSU, Miami, and Clemson all play each other. each does 1-1 against the others and wins all other games. Which teams are the "top two"? Do you go by a CFP ranking? Do you do it by a points spread? No matter what, whichever team is left out, they have a legitimate claim that one team not playing has a claim to the title. I call it the Campbell's Auburn problem. At least with division, you can have ties at the top but the 'winner' then only gets a perk to play the next game with the other teams all sitting out... rather than being the odd one out.
If you count all games, well then you could have UNC play the MACtion teams four times compared to us taking on a Clemson that might play 2+ 25 teams.
The divisions ensure that out of that cohort, the team playing in the camp game is the best of that group. The team can be a stinker but it is the least stinky of the cohort. It worked with the last few ACC CG but not this year.

With championships.
If you have a 3 way tie, the conferecent can decide. Have a committee with all conference ADs. Let the conferences decide which 2 teams they would like to represent them. If people don't like it, they can complain to their own conference.
I'm OK with 7-6 meac champion making it to the playoffs when a 12-1 Georgia team didnt cause they couldn't beat bama.
