3rd down issues?

A lot of folks have suggested we "miss Renfrow" on third down.

Last year our 3rd down conversion rate was 46%.

This year our 3rd down conversion rate is......46%.


3rd down conversion rate doesn't appear to be an issue unless you think it was an issue last year.

It's an issue unless you are scoring on first or second or fourth down or going for it on fourth down and are successful. Otherwise, it is not an issue.

Last year we averaged 23.9 first downs per game.

This year we are averaging 24 first downs per game.

The only slight change is we're getting a little more by running and penalty this year and first downs by passing are down a little.

Nothing's changed but perception.

in the first few games last year, the we were alternating QB's on offense which impacted some of those stats.

That's not the case this year.

The point is, while the stats may be similar, is hard to argue that the offense is performing at the same level that it did last year; especially in the latter half of the season.

Not really.

Through the first 5 games of last season we averaged 23.4 first downs per game. That's not far off the season average.
