If Clemson is the 1st or 4th seed, then we are playing our semi-final game in Atlanta in the recently elevated to major bowl status: The Peach Bowl. If Clemson is a #2 or #3 seed then we are playing the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, AZ. I think most Clemson fans would much rather drive to Atlanta than to have to fly to Phoenix, although Phoenix that time of year makes a real nice vacation because of the weather.
Actually, for Clemson being the #4 seed is better than the #1 seed, because Dabo can bust out the "We are just little 'ol Clemson, riding the ROY bus", Dabo is much more comfortable being the underdog than the favorite, his speech when his high school retired his number, speaks to this, he refuses to embrace "I'm the best" or "we are the best", and uses it to be the master motivator, Clemson is going to be on a mission to leave zero doubt, that those haters are full of ####.

The number 1 seed picks the site, correct?
I think you are correct, unless the final #1 is LSU. They might decide on Arizona.

I'm not sure if the #1 gets the actual choice, but the committee does take it into account, and I believe talk to the coaches if a perceived disadvantage is in question.
I can't find the link, but the CFP website used to have a blurb about it. It stated something like, "the sites are assigned to avoid a disadvantage to the #1 and #2 seeds."
Basically, if UGA were to end up at #4, they would not send Ohio State to Atlanta to play in UGA's backyard.
Therefore, (assuming we end up #2 or #3), our best bet appears to be Ohio St as #1. An SEC team at #1 will likely be assigned to Atlanta unless UGA somehow sneaks in at #4.
Still a lot of football to be played though, so who knows how it will all play out.

Neither of you is correct. The committee picks who goes where. In the decision they are suppose to send the #1 seed to the closer destination provided that it does not give the #4 seed a geographic advantage. It is not predetermined and the number one seed does not decide.

if OSU is 1 they may put them in Phx vs ATL to avoid a matchup with a Bama or Clemson in their backyard. Plenty of Bucknut alum out in phx. Now if LSU, Bama or CU is 1 then 1v4 game will be in ATL for sure.

The most obvious scenario would be:
1) SEC or Big Ten Champ
2) SEC or Big Ten Champ
3) Clemson
4) Pac 12 or Big XII Champ
I can envision chaos scenarios where we move up to #2 or mayyyyyybe even #1, but i don't see how we finish 4th.
