(Repost with added perspective) Bi-Annual Reminder to step

Feb 7, 2019, 12:02 PM

away from the ledge because we 'only' signed a #9 class with 12 4 or 5 stars (Per Rivals):

Since 2002, we've only signed 4 classes ranked higher (2011, 2015, 2016, 2018).

Since 2002, we've only signed more than 12 4 or 5 stars twice (2008 and 2016, both at 13, which is the most we've ever signed).

In the 2003 through 2005 classes we only signed 9 four stars total.

Obviously this is a bigger class but the blue-chippers are equal to or greater than almost every other class for the last 17 years and historically, we're going to get some elite production from the "3-star" guys who we develop or were undervalued by some guy who evaluates for a recruiting service. To wit:

Some former Clemson players who were only rated two or three stars over the years:
Charlie Whitehurst (3)
Gaines Adams (3)
Aaron Kelly (2)
Phillip Merling (2, then 3)
Barry Richardson (2)
Michael Hamlin (3)
Kavell Conner (2)
Tyler Grisham (2)
Michael Palmer (2)
Cody Sensabaugh (2)
Andre Branch (2)
Bashaud Breeland (3)
Tyler Shatley (3)
Vic Beasley (3)
Grady Jarrett (3)
BJ Goodson (3)
Adam Humphries (2)
Cordrea Tankersley (3)
DJ Reader (3)
Jay Guillermo (3)
Jordan Leggett (3)
Wayne Gallman (3)
TJ Green (2)
Ryan Carter (2)
Kendall Joseph (3)
Hunter Renfrow (2)
K'von Wallace (3)
Travis Etienne (3)

Almost all of those guys are/were/will be NFL players.

Some former Clemson signees who were rated four and five stars over the years:
Roscoe Crosby (5)
Rendrick Taylor (4)
Willy Korn (4)
Kortnei Brown (4)
Markish Jones (4)
Marquan Jones (4)
Kenneth Page (4)
Bryce McNeal (4)
Desmond Brown (4)
Justin Parker (4)
Mike Bellamy (5)
Lateek Townsend (4)
Germone Hopper (4)
Ronald Geohaghan (4)
Chad Kelly (4)
Zac Brooks (4)
Tyshon Dye (4)
Ebo Ogundeko (4)
Korie Rogers (4)
Jae'lon Oglesby (4)
Demarre Kitt (4)
Milan Richard (4)
Jake Fruhmorgen (4)
Zerrick Cooper (4)
Hunter Johnson (5)
Josh Belk (4)

A lot of busts, "whos"?, and other guys who didn't pan out for one reason or another on that list.

You never know how a kid's career is going to turn out until they get on campus. We've had as many diamond-in-the-rough success stories as blue chippers who pan out over the years. I think we can trust the coaching staff who've won 2 of the last 3 National Championships to evaluate the guys we recruited. I'm excited about the guys we signed!

GO TIGERS!!

Yeah, sure, that makes some sense, but it has been a whole month since we won a national championship!

That's a long time. It's like 4 weeks. Like 30 days or something! So I'm thinking, what have you done for me LATELY, Dabo?

OK...so with '15, '16, and '18

As benchmarks, you're agreeing with Todd re: cycling out? ;)

Definitely cycling out.

I predict Clemson will lose a game at some point in the future, and given that they were undefeated this year, that is a downward trend. So cycling out.

"Lose"...??? What is this "lose" that you speak of? Please.***

Its more important for coaches to be able to see future upside instead of seeing stars. How many HS Juniors are anywhere near their peak? I was born on October 30, so started my junior year of football at 15 years old, 6'3" and 135 Lbs. Grew 6" between end of tenth grade and junior year. Made it hard to walk and chew gum for a while until I got use to all the physical changes. Didn't get to 205 and 6'4" until Sr year at CU. Great that these 5* mature so young but no where near that biological maturity for most HS football players. Looking at family history is probably as important as stars.

Good stuff. Wish I could TU again!***

I haven't seen anybody on the edge as a result of this class

Feb 13, 2019, 10:24 PM

can't imagine why anyone would have a problem with it. Seems like we matched our needs well.

Zac Brooks and Milan Richard don't belong on that list

Cooper and Johnson will have fine careers elsewhere.
