i never got to watch it when i was in school.. and i grew up in eastern NC

Requiem for the old-school ACC tournament (and classroom TV cart)
For schoolkids all over the Carolinas and beyond, the ACC tournament was a black TV cart-worthy event.

That story is absolutely true, I went to high school in eastern NC and they would always put the tourney on but, we actually had TVs up in a corner of every classroom and it was on all over the school.

Leesville Elementary, Middle, and High in Raleigh and it was on every year I can remember. Also had those tv’s on the little ledge in the upper corner of the classroom like someone else above said

My high school basketball coach, Ronnie Collins of USuCk fame, took the whole team up for one game each year. I remember Billy Cunningham but that is about it.
