RIP Tiger....

he was one of those big nasty O linemen that we rolled out there year after year back then who hit you in the teeth every play, said nothing, went back to the huddle, got in their stances and hit your ### in the teeth again. I remember him well, number 79 i think.....RIP Tiger.

dad's bought about 3 cars from Mayberry... dad was talking

Jul 10, 2012, 3:25 PM

to him about Coach Ford and ask him how it was to play for Coach Ford and he had a funny story about how afraid of him everyone was when they played for him. He told dad that one day not too long ago Coach Ford paid him a visit at his Ford Dealership in Monroe and to play a joke on him before he walked into his office he just yelled "Mayberry!" like he used to at practice and Bob said it still sent shivers down his spine...

GREAT story

i know a guy who's a teacher/coach in Columbia who was a Nose Tackle on some great Tiger teams and he told me a similar story......and said that when Coach Ford didn't think they were nasty enough at practice, Coach Ford would get down in a three point stance, fire off the ball and drill the center in drills with no pads on.....they broke the mold with that guy.

Living about 30 miles from Monroe, had heard the dealership name a number of times, but didn't realize the relationship to CU. The dealership website currently has a tribute posted. http://www.bobmayberryhyundai.com/
