Tiger tennis fall update

Oct 5, 2018, 3:48 PM

Ok so the fall season in college tennis is the individual season. Several players on the men's team will head to tournaments this weekend.

Already in action is Junior Simon Baudry (Miss State transfer) who got direct entry into the ITA national tournament in Tulsa. He upset the #4 player in the nation Timo Stodder of Tennessee in the first round! Baudry is ranked #46 nationally right now so the win over #4 will boost his ranking quite a bit.

Here's what our top 6 likely will look like this upcoming season:

1. Simon Baudry
2. Teodor Giusca (Freshman from Romania who has a decent ATP ranking)
3. Yizhou Liu (Sophomore from China who finished last season very strong for the Tigers)
4. Gabriel Diaz Freire (junior from Spain. Transfer from Loyola Marymount, where he played #1)
5. Pierre Louis Dodens (Belgian transfer from Arizona State)
6. Carlos Kelaidis (junior from Greece, player 5 or 6 for Tigers the last 2 years)

This team should be better than previous seasons and push for a NCAA tournament berth.

So one American? I hate the way College tennis is going. The internationals are good but we have to have some in the US that can compete on the upper college level.

Quick... name where your nearest youth tennis team is...

That is probably why we don't have many Americans on our team

Well of those 6 none are American

Baudry is from France.

But we do have 4 bench players from the USA who may get some playing time but are a little below those guys.

It depends on the team. Some schools focus on international recruiting and some American. Clemson is usually a mixture, but this particular team is more international.

Duke, Vanderbilt, Florida, Virginia, Michigan, UCLA, Stanford, Ohio State, Illinois are a few of the schools that recruit the best Americans and are like 80% American.

Texas Tech, Mississippi State, wake Forest, Arizona State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State are a few that recruit nearly 100% international with their certain pipelines. (Okst Eastern Europe, ole miss Scandinavia, Texas tech Brazil and Argentina etc etc)

The new Indoor Tennis facility is gonna be real nice when it is done. What do you think of it so far and what it will be like when it is completed?

It's coming all together quickly

I think the official opening date is in November. It's going to make indoor viewing so much better, because the old facility was very out of date.
